I have used this place for thirty years and watched owners/staff come and go. It's always been a great local, mostly good music and always a good chat. For the first time in all this time I was ripped off by a barmaid here. Not once, not even twice she tried 3 times (same transaction). Beware, always check your change and watch the prices, she likes to overcharge. Think she thought we were visitors.

“Friendly folk, great location!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2012

I went to The Boo recently because I heard it was under new ownership. I had a fabulous time! The staff is super friendly. The bartender who served me is a long-time area resident and was a great sources of information if you want to check out local haunts and get some local history. The frozen drinks are savory and the fish spread is awesome. I felt very at home there and look forward to going again!

“Now called the Bamboo Beach bar and Grill”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2011

Liked this place when it was called the bamboo beer garden, & now with the new improvements in the menu and a new name its on my radar again. Went there again recently over the holidays and really had an enjoyable time. The food has really stepped up quite a bit. Had a few items on the menu that I'd had in the past and they were really excellent. Way beyond what you would expect at a "bar", makes sense why they changed to bar and grill as a moniker.

“Great food & fun place to hang with friends Love the BOO!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2011

Came here a few years back with my family who always vacations in Madeira and insists on coming like homing pigeons every year to john's pass. The Bamboo Beer garden as it was formerly named was always my favorite part of the visit as we would end up there after browsing through the shops. Well actually my father would end up there first to escape shopping with the ladies. It's really cool that you can walk around johns pass with your beer or cocktail from place to place and not be harrassed because it is all wet zoned.

Visited the bamboo this summer and heard there were new owners taking over and was curious to see what changes were going to happen. Just visited over the holidays again and was pleasantly surprised to find that it is still the fun boo that I grew up with but now even better. Food quality has improved in a major way. I remember typically having hamburgers or fried shrimp in the past there that were just so so, WOW the new owners have really improved on the quality of the food for sure. Buns are really good. Shrimop & fries are excellent My friend had a chicken philly and I ended up eating most of it . It was so good we had to order another. Can't rave enough about the fish spread. YUMMY Really fresh, nice big portion and I like that they include jalapenos as a side that you can add. Over the Holidays we went a few times and every time the entertainment was really good. Had a an extra fun time on a "TIKI" tuesday, what a fun mix of people. About fell off my chair laughing at one of the regulars a man of about 90 years who gets up and jams with the band by playing a paddle ball.. totally hilarious. Early in the day the band started at 3, then later a younger mix of people came for Tiki Tuesday which was fun and kitchy. The other nice thing is that they just added a jukebox so even when there is not live music you can really set your own ambiance and party to suit your tastes.
I will definitely be back to the boo for more fun next time I am in Madiera!

“WE WERE THERE LAST YEAR THIS YEAR NEW OWNERS”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 12, 2011

What a differance a year makes. Last year it was enjoyalbe. This year its a disaster.
Lousy entertainment. You have to go to the bar or look for a waitress. They have no time to be friendly and yet expect a tip.

The food is okay but dont sit close to the washrooms or the smell will get to you.
PLEASE GO TO THE LADIES AND MENS WASHROOM THAT WILL TELL YOU THE STORY OF HOW BAD THIS PLACE IS. THIS PLACE SHOULD BE CLOSED. WOULD YOU EAT THERE?
WHERE IS THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT.
