“Great beach location”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

The condo we stayed in was 508. It was a bit outdated but adequate. Needs new mattresses in guest room for sure!!! Very hard. Inadequate amount of linens!! The oil is a nice size but having to use a key everytime you wanted to enter it or go to beach was a pain !!! Great location being across street from johns pass! Lots to do for all ages.

Just had a week rental in Sandy Shores. Unit 103 is a 2 bed / 2 bath that includes king master with ocean view and 2nd bedroom with double/twin and a rollaway bed.
The location is great with ocean views, nice sand that isnt too overcrowded and walking distance to St. John's Pass and our new favorite Candy Kitchen. The pool area was nice in terms of pool that is cleaned well and deck area is nice with a few covered tables. The chairs need updating though.
The clean crew did a good job cleaning up every morning the whole property. But we did see the trash chute get clogged up in evening.
We rented 5 units for the week and they all are different in style and renovation level. Likely different owners?
Our unit's kitchen and master bath had been updated to pretty nice. Really nice appliances, cabinetry and granite. The living room and 2nd bath needs some love. The linens too and carpet in rooms and living are Berber and our feet turned black after hanging out in the apt. I would say the place was cleaned nicely but the carpet was just older to us. Some of the outlets don't work or are really loose from long term use. And lastly the sliding glass doors seemed very old and one didn't lock (a bar was provided).
The parking provides 1 dedicated spot. They provide 2 pool keys that give access to pool, beach and stairway for security.
We luckily used the stairs because we were on floor 1. There is only 1 elevator and it is 5 stories above the parking.
Considering the cost, I considered it a good value overall.
So to recap, this place has great location and great views. The condo has a nice layout and bed offering. The unit is partially renovated but needs more love. The building has good pool area overall but the elevator situation is the pits.

This was my fist stay at Sandy Shores but w will be back! The view was incredible, and I loved that everyone stopped to watch the sunset every evening. The pool was crystal clear without that burning chlorine of hotel pools. Loved the night lighting under the tiki huts! Our condo was clean and the kitchen stocked with all we needed! Of course, we were mainly interested in dining out, being vacation and all! We also enjoyed the pirates festival, and loved the easy access to the pass and shops.

We stayed in codo 404. The view is fantastic, but there are PLENTY of other places that have good views! The condo was on the cleaner side, but there is NO housekeeping all week. At least once to clean the bathroom would've been nice. (This is what vacation is for, right? To NOT have to clean when you're away?!) The pool area was constantly a mess. People would leave their kids toys laying all around the pool all night and day. Wet towels were everywhere. You're not supposed to "save" seats, but people did every day. The office staff was basically rude. When you asked them about the saving of seats, they just told you "move their towels." There were kids everywhere (granted, this was spring break and my kids are college age so loads of them 12 and under was a bit too much, but I can even tune that out and just go to a quiet place - beach - but the adults were more annoying than the kids! ) Quiet hour is supposed to begin at 10pm and kids would be in the pool at 10:45 screaming and yelling while their parents sat under the tiki huts drinking and socializing.) Another incident happened during the middle of the night. A loud party came in and probably had been drinking and were yelling and screaming in the hallways right outside our windows. When my husband alerted the office staff, they said, "Well, we have no way of knowing who this was. Basically, you have to act like you own the place and open your door and tell them to shut up." Are you kidding me??????? Yea, that's just what we want to do....start a fight w/a bunch of drunks at 3 in the morning. The pool gates (which are supposed to be locked at all times) were constantly left open (people would prop them open and leave it like that all night long. NO security!) There was no toilet paper, no kleenex, no vacuum (Uhhhh....sand happens in these places! You're on the beach! And w/no cleaning, of course you're supposed to do it yourself but with NO equipment!) Luckily, our condo was decent w/the exception of outdated furniture. Floors/rugs were dirty though. Feet turn black. Do not go w/out shoes at all! Overall, I will never stay here again. PLENTLY of places for the same price or better price that will get my business in the future. LOVE the area, NOT this place though. We've stayed in this area for years, usually at the Sea Chest down the road a bit. This year we thought we'd try something new and sorry we did. (Now, NOT sorry we went to FL....we just found plenty to do away from the condo and went to the beach every day to avoid the craziness at the pool side.)

Condo 303 - We were disgusted with this unit. It was filthy and did not appear to have been cleaned between tenants. The carpets were very old, stained and were not vacumed...the bathrooms were dirty (sinks, floors not cleaned and the shower curtains were mouldy) and extremely out of date...the furniture was very, very old and dirty and the second bedroom was dismal, not to mention very dirty (I think there was 20 years worth of dirt under the beds). We asked the staff to clean the unit which they did not do, so we ended up scrubing the floors ourselves. The utensils and dishes were dirty too and had to be washed before using them.
We also didn't have WIFI for half of the vacation.
Maybe some of the other units in this building are better but stay away from 303!!!
On a brighter note, the pool area was very nice, new & clean. The ocean/beach view and proximity to John's Pass was very good.
The office staff was not at all helpful and were not responsive to our requests.

Room Tip: Be sure you ask for an ocean room and if unsatified, be sure to address it on the very first day.

Our party consisted of 5 people .... Me 46 and my kids in their late 20's

For the most part we were happy with our stay but here are the things we cam across .....

We stayed in Room 408 --- 2 bedroom / 2 bath condo --- had partial view of ocean if you leaned over the side LOL

The overall size of the condo is nice ... decent furnishings..... we were all comfortable for the most part ... master bedroom was big and spacious other bedroom had full size bed and twin size bed .... we had 3 people in that room ---- beds could be a better

Knowing that you have to pay a $100 cleaning deposit along with a weekly rental amount I was not very happy when we first arrived and found the kitchen floor dirty and the dishes were still in the dishwasher. The coffee pot had a hole in the carafe (how can the maids not see that). The broom we were provided was for a lil person as it was only like 3' tall.... LOL

In the 2nd bedroom it had a ceiling fan that needs replaced or adjusted as it "clanked" when turned on---- I am a person that has to run the fan at night so that was an inconvenience for me.

The elevator fan was broken so it was very warm inside it

The patio only had 2 chairs .... but the condo can hold up 4-6 people so I would like to see that accomodated.

The location of this complex is perfect .... we did NOT have a car ..... you can catch the bus and for $4.50 per day you can travel up and down coastline. We had a great time visiting other beaches this way.

You can walk to several things ... across the street is John's Pass ... its a shopping district, restaurants, excursions, fishing, boating, some night life, just about everything you need is there.

The pool area was well kept ... we never used it though because we love the ocean more.

If you dont bring your own beach stuff.... just go across the street and buy your chairs and umbrellas .... you can rent some on the beach but its cheaper to buy your own and leave them behind for the next people.

The beach is BEAUTIFUL --- and i really Love this area .... will come back to Madeira Beach area. We took the bus south to Pass-a-Grille and its amazing .... we went to Clearwater at dusk to catch the sunset and see Pier 60 and that was great .... but the sand and beach smell fishy LOL

The grocery store is just a mile or 1 1/2 mile away .... Thanks Gary for lending us your car to get there :)

I dont really have any negatives other than what is above and they were minor ------- I would stay at Sandy Shores again ...... but the coast line is lined up with places to stay I'd probably try something new next time
