Our stay at Penny´s house was just perfect. Thank you so much! Even there were no icebergs at this time of the year we enjoyed the super clean house and the surrounding area, its quietness, the unique million dollar view from the breakfast table or the couch to the ocean and especially the absolutely perfect equipped house which we called deservedly our HOME for 10 days. We missed nothing, not even our real home. The kitchen offers everything you need from preparing sandwiches to a full dinner. The beds were very comfortable and gave us the rest we needed after long and tiring days of hiking oder sightseeing. Furthermore there is nothing you miss for doing the laundry. A brand-new washing machine and a tumble dryers are placed in the basement. Even we had not the time for long nights watching movies we enjoyed the large HD TV offering Netflix or - very important for my son - Golf Channel. ;-) Something I have to point out is the really fast internet connection. Wow! This was awesome and way better than in many other houses we rented in the past especially in the US.
The East Coast Trail runs just a few feet below the house so you don´t even need a car to get to the trail head. We didn´t hike it there because there is no loop trail and no possibility to get back to Pouch Cove by public transport. But as I found out later there is a cab service.
Pouch Cove offers a little convenience store but unfortunately no restaurants or something similar. But this is no big deal. It´s just a 20 minutes drive to St. Johns which provides everything from Sushi to German food if you want to go out.
The house is a perfect place to escape the big cities hustle and bustle without being too far from everything you need like shopping facilities, doctors, restaurants, golf courses and so on. We took a couple of trips from closer or more distant points of interest like Signal Hill in St. John´s, Cape St. Francis near Pouch Cove (use a 4WD car), Cape Spear, Bonavista, Ferryland, Bay Roberts, Downtown St. John´s, played golf at Clovelly (expensive), Glendenning, (very cool) and Admiral´s green (take a buggy). We loved all of these places an definitely want to come back.
Folks, so many people in Europe asked us: What the … takes you to Newfoundland? We knew and know it better: it´s so close to Europe by any means, likable, comfy, awesome, gorgeous, rough, fresh, Irish, wild - just a perfect place to relax and revitalize yourself.
