“a pleasant stop along newfoundland's western coast”

i had been campaigning for this stop to be included on our road trip to/from l'anse aux meadows for over a month. since the park is located just off of the main highway, my travel companions were willing to oblige.

i'm a sucker for unique natural formations, and the arches certainly do not disappoint. we visited in the midmorning, and i have a feeling that the many picnic tables at the park get heavy use during mealtimes. as it was, there were several other folks taking in the sights while we were there, but it was still possible to get great photos without having to wait for hordes of people to move so they weren't blocking the arches.

there are not a lot of facilities here, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. as i recall, the bathrooms were sort of tucked away, so as not to spoil the scenery. it's unfortunate that more parks don't follow this practice.

as i said, i'd been looking forward to stopping here, and i certainly was not disappointed. this is certainly one of the prettier places to get out of the car and stretch your legs for a bit.

There are two huge rocks that have eroded in such a way that they look like two arches have been carved in the rock. Just off the highway, it takes only a few minutes to admire these amazing rocks, take pictures, and stroll along the shoreline in front of the "arches". I highly recommend that you stop and look --just to look at the rocks without walking will only delay your trip by two minutes.

There are also "toilettes" that can be reached either by car or by walking up a wooden boardwalk. They are privies. On the day we were there, nature would be a better smelling choice.

We stopped here en route to bigger destinations and loved it. The arches were awesome. You could climb under and on them. The path down was through a fragrant fir patch. A stand of dead white trees was eerily beautiful. Plentiful picnic tables.
