Newfoundland is all about surreal beauty and incredible people. Walking out to the Arches felt like I was entering an episode of Outlander. I had no preconceived ideas of what Newfoundland would look like so I was surprised that it looked like everything I had fantasized that Ireland would look like. The natural beauty of Newfoundland rivals the romance of any Celtic fictional setting. It is the fantasy of those perfect Outlander settings come to life. Breathtaking.

We stopped here briefly on our way to L’Anse aux Meadows. Access is easy to access and this is a small park that offers a beautiful landscape! The natural rock archways were created by tidal action - carved over the years by the sea.

The day was lovely and we enjoyed a short walk on the beach while listening to the crashing waves. As in most of the sites that we visited during our trip – we largely had the site to ourselves. The best place from which to view the “arches” and take pictures is on the bluff on the opposite side of the parking lot.

This is easily visited from Cow Head where we stayed, or if you are travelling up the Viking Route. A neat natural formation, carved out by wave action. Probably some good hiking, but the weather did not cooperate with us for more than a quick photo stop.

It was pouring rain when we stopped to see the the Arches but did get a few photos. Because of the rain we didn’t stay long.

We decided to stop in to this park for a quick look and ended up staying an hour. Spectacular and ancient rock formation especially with the waves breaking through the arches.

The visit to the Arches would have been perfect IF the black flies weren't eating us all alive!!! Pack the DEET just in case. It is a pretty site and fun to walk around (except for the black flies!!!)

My kids enjoyed climbing and playing around the arches. Nice break from being in the car. Parking lot available at top of the stairs.

Arches has interesting rock structures and the sounds of the Gulf of St. Lawrence crashing on the rounded boulders.
Very peaceful place to stop on the Viking Trail.

We stopped at the arches on the way down the coast from St Anthony. We fully expected a large park but within a few minutes we were parked in front of the stone arches. A magnificent geological feature that most people drive right by. We have returned several times and find it extraordinary every time. The wonders of nature!
