“The Trouble With Harry's (great food but....)”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2013

We had four wonderful Prix Fixe dinners about $35 each at Harry's tonight. I can't overlook the warm bread, butter and roasted garlic before we ordered. The vichyssoise and shrimp creations were excellent as was the chopped liver, beef and desserts -- we split the coconut cream pie and New Orleans bread pudding. We felt the soup might have been thicker and the pie might have had a more pronounced coconut flavor. Otherwise, we enjoyed our meals until....A party of 11 older persons were seated at a table next to us in a relatively small room. Even before they ordered drinks their talking and laughter were ear-splitting. Not wishing to interfere with their merriment, we asked to be relocated to another table. Our request was denied. Several years ago at Ruth's Chris Steak House in a Chicago north suburb, we faced a similar situation and were relocated to a quiet table at once. On leaving Harry's I noticed a number of excellent tables outdoors, far enough away from Gulf of Mexico Drive to eliminate traffic noise and exhaust pollution. Had we chosen to dine outside on the pleasant Florida night, we would have enjoyed the excellent and creative dishes all the more.

“"SORRY"--it could have been a great review, but....”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2013

The dinner started off wonderfully with the four of us enjoying the 4-course menu. The grilled shrimp cocktail with avocado and salsa was fabulous. We sat in an intimate, small room. Then disaster struck--eleven people arrived and began by apologizing for the noise they'd be making. Picture a Fountain racing boat speeding noisily through a "no wake zone." That's how it felt. As the waitress stood next to our table shouting for each of the diners to shout their drink requests back to her, we sped to finish out entrees. The wait before the desserts and coffee arrived seemed suspended in time as I plugged my ear on the noisy side and couldn't wait to leave. Thinking that the right thing to do would be to move our table, I mentioned to the waitress how the noise pollution was ruining the evening. "SORRY," she replied. We finally got our reprieve and were able to leave, but I stopped to speak to the people in management positions advising them not to seat any more diners at the 2 small tables in that room--that dinner had been lovely until the atmosphere destroyed it. He replied, "SORRY." Fortunately there are many wonderful restaurants in the Longboat Key area, like Euphemia Haye, Crab and Fin, and Island Creperie. Harry's could be one of the fine restaurants if they begin to care about the overall dining experience and match it to the delicious, creative cuisine.

“Great food in a surpising location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 6, 2013

Harry's looks like it might be a fast food place, but it is anything except that. The service was excellent and the food delicious. I had crab cakes; my husband had scallops in a cream sauce; and our friend had a club sandwich. All were prepared to perfection. The Key Lime pie is wonderful. The food including the desserts are freshly made there. One may be served inside or outside, we chose sitting outside and enjoyed the atmosphere. I know this review sounds flowery, but getting the service and food in such an unusual location was a delightful surprise.

“Pleasant ambiance and good food at reasonable prices”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2013

We like Harry's for lunch and have been there many times. Yesterday, we sat outside under a large umbrella to protect from the sun. You can get a full breakfast at lunch if you want, but we stuck to noontime fare. My blackened salmon salad was excellent, and my friend enjoyed his fish tacos and potato salad. Our server was pleasant and professional. A few months ago, I ate inside in one of the three, small, more formal dining rooms. Starched white table clothes and napkins contribute to the cool and relaxing upscale ambiance. The menu is the same inside or out. Excellent wines.

“WOW, what a breakfast!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 28, 2013

We turned up at Harry's for some breakfast/brunch and to be honest the place looks OK but nothing special from outside. However, it's really nicely laid out inside and it had a very good breakfast/brunch menu that suited our needs. Whilst waiting for our breakfast the waitress brought over some complimentary biscuits (like scones) and banana cake - these were real good! When breakfast came it was lovely, fresh, hot and good-sized portions. Cannot recommend this place enough and can't wait to go back!
