....hidden away - nice food, tons of broiled shrimp on my Caesar salad, reasonable prices, snippy server....so nice to be able to sit outside on the water in a quiet spot.

Great spot after a day on the beach. This casual spot is just what you want in a great crab joint! Our server made us feel right at home. She was very attentive without "hovering".

The restaurant's best feature is it's location on the water. The view is fabulous. Our waiter did a good job meeting our needs.
The food was OK....No bread. Just a big bunch of cracker packages in a basket with butter packets (this was kind of strange---I guess the butter is used on the crackers?).
The cost was not too pricey, but the food was nothing special.

After so many years on Longboat Key, I just realized that we have never reviewed this classic, after dining here many times. That said, we generally enjoy our visits but never leave enthused, which was the case recently. For an establishment with a name that includes "Stone Crab Restaurant," you might expect that stone crabs would excel. Indeed, they are generally good, but Moore's experiences the same quirky availability as other local restaurants and are not really any better. In fact, there have been a few times when the meat stuck to the inside of the shell and we suspected that they had been frozen. But most of the time they are indeed good. The rest of the menu is quite large and obviously features seafood of all varieties from shellfish to fresh catch. Fried food dominates but other cooking methods are available. The usual "landlubber" items are a concession to those who should be dining elsewhere.

Service is generally from well-informed and friendly servers some of whom have been there since Florida became a state. The interior ambiance retains some "Old Florida" charm, but some "New Florida" freshioning is overdue. Outdoor dining in good weather can be memorable. In summary, good but not great and worth a visit just to say that you have been there.

Stone Crab meal rate this place 5 stars everything else i give it 1 star. It used to be standing room only with a long wait for tables now open tables at 7 pm. This is a perfect example of what happens when you do not reinvest in your restaurant and pull out all the cash. They kill the golden goose. This place could be a landmark place and be like Joe's Stone crab in South Beach, but no greed has ruled this roost. The tables, decor and furnishings havent changed for 30 years. its old and dated. Several times throughout the meal two sweaty dirty chefs came out of the kitchen to visit with the owner at the host stand. Really cant you dress your kitchen staff better. These clowns are cooking our food and they need to look clean and professional not like 8 dollar an hour cooks from a greasy spoon, you are serving 60 dollar entrees.. Avoid everything other than the stone crab. Marginal quality entrees with no creativity
