Description: Enjoy a delicious fresh Florida seafood meal inside the quaint dining room, on the outdoor covered deck or under the ancient Buttonwood Trees overlooking picturesque Sarasota Bay. Farm to fork, gulf to table and pasture to plate. It's waterfront dining with a unique atmosphere. Leave a dollar bill on the wall and a little bit of your heart to find on your return visit. Voted #1 place to Dock and Dine with our own private 14 slip dock. There is no place quite like the Mar Vista for real Florida dining.

Noticed there were no recent reviews for MarVista, so here are my impressions.

Family had dinner at MarVista our last night on Longboat Key ,March 29. The restaurant has NO street appeal, but that doesn't matter. In-laws recommended and joined us for this meal.

Our waiter was quite attentive and even took our changing seats in stride. DH wanted the steamers which step-Mom was going to share with him. Then he and DD decided to share a seafood platter, so switching made it easier for all those things.

Everyone raved about their choice. I even tried a steamer and enjoyed it. [I'm not a big clam fan.].

We chose to sit inside even though outside was available. We didn't want to have sun in the eyes, etc.

This was one of the best meals we had during our week in FL.

We ate lunch at the Mar Vista at the end of March. We ate outside near the water. The view was beautiful! All our food was very good! The waitress was very accommodating to our children. The wait for the food was a bit long, but we walked out on the dock to look at the boats and water and enjoyed the peace! We would go there again!

Local resident very disappointed. Many service mistakes and one dinner returned for warming. Regret to say, Mar Vista has gone way down the hill!

I own property in the area and have been spending time in the area for years have have a pretty good feel for food in the town(no, I am not 85 years old - in fact, under 40).

Anyway, this is a cute place but the food is very, very over priced and quality is only average. Starters are good, but you may want to move on after sunset for dinner to another place. Indoors area is small so plan to sit outside. They don't take reservations although if you call they will tell you they'll do preferred seating. Don't be fooled by that, it only means they want you to come and wait for 20 minutes until they make room for you. Overall, my wife and I agreed that the service and food was the worst we'd had in a long time for $75 a couple.

Try Mangrove Bay in Bradenton, Fred's in Sarasota, or even the Beach House (bit of a tourist spot) on Bradenton Beach (about 5 minutes from Mar Vista) for a good meal at the appropriate price.

Although I have not experienced the fly "epidemic" at Mar Vista, I must agree with the other posters that this place is to be avoided like the plague! Mar Vista is far too expensive for what is offered, and the inside of the restaurant looks like an old fishing shack (NOT a compliment!). While the outside is lovely during "no-fly" season, you can go right next door to Moore's Stone Crab Restaurant and get the same view -- plus a better meal (and MUCH more affordable). The owners of Mar Vista also run the Beach House Restaurant (a few miles North) and the Sandbar Restaurant (even further North) on Anna Maria Island. I would HIGHLY recommend those restaurants over this one.
