“Don't Judge A Book By it's Cover”
Reviewed May 11, 2013

Tucked away in a shopping center that is being renovated sits the all alone Bayou Tavern. We took a chance and went in based on other reviews. Best decision today. The name doesn't tell you that it is an excellent Italian Restaurant. The mussels and clams were incredibly fresh. The pasta was of good quality and cooked perfectly. The prosciutto and melon were fresh and tasty. The salad was fresh. Warm and not soggy garlic bread. Tiramasu with shared spoons -Perfect. Night cap of the home made Lemonciello. Service was very good and friendly. This is a do not miss. Don't pass it by because of the exterior - it's what's inside that counts.

“Maybe an off night but Just awful!”
Reviewed May 11, 2013

Went here for pizza with a group and it was decent. Had some original choices and prices were not bad. Went back to try some of the specials they had told us about a couple nights later and...
First of all the place had one other table occupied and about five people in the bar area. We were seated and then sat to wait...and wait...until finally we flagged someone down. We ordered drinks and then we waited...and waited...you get the picture. We got our appetizer after a ridiculous amount of time and then, still holding out hope that things would get better, we ordered dinner. We sat there and waited again. We were there about an hour total and finally left some money on the table and walked out. Then the owner gets mad as he sees us leave and makes a snide comment to the server, how they don't want their meals now. No! Why would we? We were neglected, the food was never even started after an hour of sitting there, no apologies, nothing! I worked in the service industry as a server and Restaurant manager. I always take the side of the server if it's a busy night and I see they are really running. This was just bad business.

“Great Pizza, Too!”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

This was our 2nd visit to the restaurant in the rather defunct strip mall on beautiful Longboat Key and the first time we ordered pizza there. It was a great choice. We built our own with some of the toppings listed on the menu. All pizzas there are the same size, 14 inches, but there the similarity ends.

This visit we sat at one of the tables near the bar in the first room you enter. We were seated next to a window facing the bayou, which was nice. It got rather lively in this bar area and though it could be considered a fun atmosphere, next time we go there we will sit in the dining room. As before, the owner/manager was very welcoming and friendly. Service was very good.

“Decent food, slow service”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

We ate here on Easter Sunday after finding other places closed or not offering any specials. We thought they were offering their specials because their sign had them but our server told us ther were no specials once we were seated. We split a pizza and pasta. The pizza was good, the pasta just ok (they also wanted to charge us $5 to split a plate, so we just passed our plates back and forth). Service was very slow even though there weren't many people in the restaurant. We rated it just an average experience...nothing I would be compelled to go back to with plenty of other good places to pick from on the key.

“What A Wonderful Surprise”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

We decided to have Sunday dinner at this restaurant because of the reviews. Because the outside appears to be an abandoned plaza and looked rundown, we had our doubts. We were shocked when we entered and found a very attractive and charming place that had a view to die for. And this eatery was very similar inside to many of the restaurants that we dined at in the Italian countryside when we toured Italy. That was just the beginning. We made the reservation for 5:30 pm since many of the area restaurants are busy on Sundays and it has been cold, so inside dining was very
appealing. We were seated in a comfortable booth. There were fabric tablecloths and napkins giving the restaurant a feeling of class. We were unaware that they have early bird specials until 5:45 pm. And there were quite a few choices. Everything was delicious. Our server gave us the greatest service we have experienced during our past two weeks on vacation here. This is truly gourmet dining at a bargain price. Don't miss it!
