I'm a crab cake snob, and these are the best. Next time I will get the crab cake appetizer & the crab cake entree! It's a charming old place. Other reviewers commented that it's a "shack"- well, it's been in business since the 1920's with little to no renovation. It's part of the charm. It's hard to find but so worth the effort! The short boat ride across the intercoastal (4 minutes?) is neat too. If you're looking for fancy, go elsewhere. If you're up for an adventure & a unique atmosphere, Cap's is it. Get the crab cakes!

If you want a glimpse of old Florida and some good food to boot, go to Cap's Place. Original 1920's buildings paneled with pine and old articles and pics of days gone by. Pleasant 5 minute boat ride to the the island puts you in another world. Our advice is to stick with the fresh seafood simply prepared. Some of the best yellowtail snapper I've ever had. But our server (I think his name was Mike) provided the real entertainment, bizarre service that was almost comical. He read the specials rote off a napkin, then provided asides ("$59.99 for crab legs-- guess you REALLLY have to like them to pay that!") When I asked for more of their wonderful rolls, he took the basket from our table and tucked it under his armpits, promising to be right back. (uh.. suddenly I'm not in the mood for rolls, thank you). Stick with the female waitresses-- and do wander over to the old bar to take in the atmosphere. It's pricey, but the food is good and it's definitely unique and from what we could see, most of the service is fine (just not our guy).

I have eaten here each year I return to florida. This time was a complete disappointment. I don't mind expensive plates if they are worth it but it was not this time. You pay more for the atmosphere now then the food. You take a small boat to an island, the restaurant is over 80yrs old and adorable but the food does not make it anymore.

Cap's Place is one of a kind. There is great food and good service.

You park and take a boat to and from the restaurant. When you arrive you think "this place is strange" (run down, old, not at all fancy), but after you learn that its 83 years old and has had many famous people eat here, then you take the time to look at the pictures and imagine what it was like here way back when.

This is a pricey establishment. Its a great place to celebrate a special occasion or take out of towners.

There is a bar, so you may want to just go there for a drink.
