Congratulations Benihana's - just voted worst restaurant experience ever!
We're a fan of this faux Japanese restaurant so we thought that an evening out with friends would be a good idea....should have kept driving straight if we knew what was in store for us.
The maitre d' that greeted us lacked the Benihana class - spiked, poorly dyed blond hair capping a shirt that needed ironing and clothes that should go to the dry cleaners!
Bar staff - forgetful and unattentive but ready to collect their tip. Bar was dirty and needed a cleaning .... badly.
But on to the low-light of the evening. Table must have shrunk or we've gotten larger, the clients in the table next to us couldn't get out of their seat without you moving...okay so maybe it's just us.
Our chef was a genuine Hispanic - Japanese chef. But maybe, we thought, he can cook. WRONG.. Soup was too salty as was the salads. THe meal in a word, terrible!!! Chicken could have been used for soles on a pair of sandals, scallops burned and ruined, vegetables burned, lobster so tough that I am still chewiing it this morning. Perhaps Benihaha's could market this as new lobster flavoured gum! But in all fairness, the white steamed rice was really white steamed rice - the high light tonite!
I should mention that Benihana's has now sunk to a new low and is in competition with Chucky Cheese for singing "Happy Birthday to You" almost on the hour and half hour. What is happening here? whatever happened to genuine Japanese ambience?????
The bill at $120 was insane but the wait staff did ask if they could keep the change from the $140 in cash inside the bill - I guess he really worked hard.
SO, if you are planning a trip to Benihana's in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea my advice is to keep driving towards the sea and go to Aruba's... now that's a restaurant but I'll write that review later.
Benihana's has lost it's way from what it was and now it's a joke...Benihaha's!
