We stayed at the Tropic Seas Resort for four nights before flying to Cancun from Miami (although had to cancel Cancun due to hurricane Dean but that is another story).
We chose this motel over others because of the pictures on their web site, the offer of continental breakfast and daily newspaper included in the cost among other things.
When we pulled up outside the motel it looked like a building site, which in effect part of it was as they were having some work done, and the office was only accessible by walking through and over the grassy grounds.
The room we had was quite small and run-down, but had everything we needed, even the ant spray to kill the never-ending sugar ants that paraded a trail from the ceiling in the living area, down the wall to the sofa bed and on any kitchen tops. Toaster was broken, bathroom sink did not hold the water and the airing cupboard door fell of when we tried to open it, the second time falling on my 11 yr old daughters head. We also had resident cockroaches, although in fairness only one very large one made his present known during the day when it wondered into the bathroom while my husband was on the toilet.
The offered continental breakfast and daily newspaper never appeared and when we asked why, we was told that they had stopped this due to people wondering in off the street and helping themselves to the food. No reduction in costs was offered for the lack of this, a small reduction was given for the renovation work in progress.
On a plus note and this is a very big plus, the pool and grounds were lovely and the view was immaculate, also I have never had such soft and fluffy towels and face towels/flannels for the British people, as I had here. Usually the towels are hard and scrathcy in motels and hotels due to the amount of washing they have had, but here they were so soft and in plentiful supply and changed daily.
Cannot fault the cleanliness at all, room was very clean and the cleaner came daily.
Finally although the management were friendly enough, when my husband asked where was the best place to go to eat, visit etc, he was told to look at the brochures/leaflets in the lobby!
