“Great Bike Trail”

This is a fantastic bike trail. It has some hills, but nothing too difficult and it's a very plesant ride. I would suggest a bike bell as the trail is shared with walkers and a bell is a good way to warn others that you are coming up behind them.

As far as Recommended length of visit....as long as your legs can hold out. And remember...you have to pedal back to where you started!

The trail is one of the best ways to engage in biking as a sport while in the middle of a metropolitan area. We have used the trail for years, have introduced all of our kids, girl scouts and other groups to biking through the safe environment of the trail. It primarily goes through residential areas with a view of many backyards; there are overpasses for safe passage over the main roadways and best of all it is a safe way to travel whether on foot, bike or skates.

I spent a nice spring day enjoying a 55 mile bike ride on the Pinellas Trail from downtown St. Pete to Dunedin and back. The trail is an arterial greenway that's almost 40 miles long. That's a pretty long stretch of urban greenway and a great resource for visitors and residents alike. The trail is in good condition for the most part and overpasses allow you to safely cross major streets. There are a lot of minor crossings, however, so keep your wits about you and obey the stop signs. Here's how the trail could be better: 1) It's pretty ugly in spots. No real civic pride is apparent until you get to Dunedin. (Wish I'd had time to go to Tarpon Springs, as I understand that's one of the prettiest stretches.) 2) While it would seem impossible to get lost on a greenway, I did so in Clearwater when the route crossed a major street. There are not a lot of signs or markings on the pavement to identify the greenway. Most of the "interchanges" with major streets and parks aren't well identified either. 3) As a history buff, I enjoy the occasional historical kiosk, but none were to be found here. These niggles aside, I was really happy to be able to take such a long ride without having to hassle with traffic in an unfamiliar area.

We've been wintering in Largo for the past 7 years and the PinellasTtrail is one of the joys of being here. With friends, we have biked the entire length of the Trail, from Tarpon Springs to St. Petersburg at different times, stopping to eat at the best spots along the way. We get on the Trail at Taylor Park in Largo after getting info on the Trail from the office at Walsingham Park. We bike up to Dunedin to attend the Arts and Crafts Shows every year in January/February (less than 1 hour from Largo) and also to attend the St. Patrick's Day festivities sponsored by Flanagan's Irish Pub. The Pinellas Trail is truly a great, safe recreational opportunity!

If you love biking then you will love the Pinellas trail. Trail extends from Tarpon Springs to St. Pete with plans for added extensions. Great places to stop along the way. Mostly shaded, never real crowded . I ride this trail 2-3 times per week while in Florida
