The Pinellas Trail is 40 miles running from St. Petersburg on up north. The trail is a bit plain in the southern half that runs through the towns, but I still enjoyed seeing Floridian style neighborhoods. The trail felt pretty safe to me with a good number of cyclists in my company but not so many to clog the trail. It is more scenic up north around Clearwater and Dunedin. I would also suggest getting off the trail a bit to ride through the Edgewater Linear Park in Dunedin. There are plenty of places to stop and take a break along the trail.
