The wife and I took advantage of the "Stay Tuesday and Wednesday Nights and get Thursday Night Free" promotion to give Caliente a try. We were very pleasantly surprised with the facility, grounds and staff. We stayed in a one bedroom condo which was very nice. The condo furnishings were as nice as any we have stayed in around the gulf coast resorts. There is a walking trail that goes through the resort, around the lakes and through each of the different types of accommodations. The trail is a good way to explore the resort and see all of the different facilities.

Staying in the condos you feel like you are in a regular neighborhood. In fact you are in a regular neighborhood because the majority of the condos appear to be permanent residence. You see people walking their dogs, working in their yards, cooking on the grill, just like at home. The only difference is the majority of the people are nude. This is a great place to get a feel for what living in a nudist community would be like. It was great.

The web site needs a little updating, but we found the area to be better than the pictures posted. There is more shade around the pool area than is shown - this is a good thing. The pictures on there web site of the pool areas, grounds and buildings are accurate representations. Use the Map Quest directions and not the directions on their web site. The directions on their web site can get you lost.

During the week there is an older crowd with the average age in the 50s. One day there were only 6 couples at the pools. The one negative was that they do allow single men to come to the pool areas. There were 5 or 6 single men there but they stayed around a different area than the couples. The men were all straight and didn't seem to be there just to look at the nude women. We went to the upper pool, which they call a conversation pool, and had the entire area by ourselves. For newbies to the nude vacation experience this gave us some time alone to get comfortable.

Beginning on Thursday and up to Sunday a younger crowd shows up. If you are looking for a lot of activity go Thursday and plan leaving early Sunday.

The wife tried the Spa – a facial and a pedicure. She said the facial was the best she has ever had. She has had facials in some of the best Spas in Atlanta and around the south. She couldn’t quit complimenting the girl that gave her the facial. Next time I am going to try the massage.

If you want to give the nude vacation a try, go Monday through Thursday and you will be able to get away from other people until you are comfortable. After 15 minutes you forget you are nude and begin to relax. The first time we tried the nude thing we were scared to death. For the first 15 minutes I was afraid that everybody would point and laugh. After a short time you realize that no one really notices you and you feel a little let down. You think - what is wrong with me - nobody even noticed than I am naked. The fact that everybody is nude is why nobody really pays any attention. You will not be the best looking person there and you will not be the worst looking either. Just do it - relax - and enjoy the experience.

The title of my review is "Better than Grand Lido". The last two summers we went to Grand Lido Negril. The first trip was great and I couldn't wait to go back. The second trip was marginal at best and certainly not worth the cost of the trip. Now that we have found Caliente we are not even considering going back to Jamaica. You can spend three weeks at Caliente for the price of one week at Grand Lido Negril. The only advantage for GLN is the beach. Caliente has the large pool and several smaller pools which helps make up for the lack of a beach.

We stayed at Caliente in January, 2007. We went to Florida seeking some warmth (anything better than cold VA) and found it! We had a marvelous time. Caliente is amazing. We stayed in Orlando and went to Disney World for the first four days of our trip, then left for Caliente for the remaining five days. I was discouraged by the surrounding town, it's depressing, It's tiny and dark and dirty. I hated it. I was skeptical that Caliente would be all that it was advertised to be on the website, but it was all that and more. I was shocked. Once you enter the gates, it's a whole different world. It was pretty much deserted when we got there...it was a bit "cold." Being from VA, we thought it was wonderful, but different strokes for different folks. Anyway, check-in was a breeze. I was hesitant at first about the "nude" thing, this being our first experience. The front desk wasn't very reassuring and honestly, I didn't care for the front desk staff. They were indifferent about pretty much everything. So you learn as you go, and you will be fine. We rented a "casita" and I have to tell you, it was awesome. We even had our own little porch. The bathrooms are tiny, but that was not a big deal to us. The bathtubs, however, are ridiculously miniscule. We splurged and rented a golf cart for our entire stay and that was cool. The cart was waiting at our casita when we got there. I was a little shy at first, but the atmosphere was undemanding and relaxed and I soon was naked as a jaybird. It was wonderful. The nicest pool on property wasn't open. Well, it was, but being as it wasn't heated the ice-cold water was not an option. The upper pool (heated) was great and very warm. We stayed in that pool most of the day and we used it in the early mornings and the late evenings. In the afternoon, we headed down to the lower pool by the bar and it was perfect. Someone said the heat element wasn't working and they were attempting to fix it and I don't know if that was true, but in the heat of the afternoon sun that water was already a perfect temperature. We had a couples massage that was expensive and worth every penny we spent! How luxurious! The food was reasonably priced, but I didn't care for the food in the sports bar. The restaurant was awesome, though, and the portions are very generous. Some people actually live at Caliente, and they tend to be the older crowd. I am 31 and my husband is 44, and we enjoyed the older people much more than the younger. The residents were friendly and talkative as opposed to the younger, visiting set who tended to be clique-ish and snobby.
The resort itself gets an A+ for cleanliness, excellent rooms, security, privacy and amazing amenities such as the pools, etc. That being said, there were a few drawbacks.
1) The maid service was shabby and they left a tip envelope in the room which I found to be tacky.
2) Again, the front desk staff is a bit wanting.
3) They need to heat the largest and nicest pool for the prices they charge.
4) Don't even bother to go on a special weekend when they advertise all sorts of activities and special happenings. We were there for the Valentine weekend and not one thing they promised materialized. NOT ONE. No strolling Italian minstrel, no chocolate fondue fountain, no photographer available for sessions (on your dime.) It was quite a let-down and what was worse was that no-one at the very unhelpful front desk seemed to know what was going on. Not one person. We were told "tomorrow" or "we'll find out and call your room." Neither of which actually happened. Quite a disappointment considering the heavy advertising campaign push on their website.
5) The bathtubs are a joke. Deceptively small.

Those complaints, however, were not enough to keep us from throroughly enjoying ourselves. We met wonderful people, enjoyed our casita, loved the golf cart, loved the pools, had a fabulous time and we can't wait to go back!

My wife and I were floored by how NICE everything at Caliente is. We just went last weekend, and will almost certainly return. We're in our mid/ late 30's, and went with our 2 year old. We were pleasantly surprised to see we weren't the youngest ones there.

Everything was very clean and upscale. The staff was incredibly professional. The resort is literally huge, with a range of houses (we were told they start at $750K), town homes and condos, and smaller casitas, 7 or more pools, tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, petanque, and a sand beach on a lake (it's a Florida lake, so you can't swim in it). Our 2 year old had a blast in the pools, and on the sand playground. We saw a few other children there; it would have been nice to see more, but there wasn't anything going on around us that seemed inappropriate. It all felt very safe.

We can't wait to get back!

Some friends had told us (more like raved) about caliente so we decided to give it a try for my birthday...it was fantastic! the hotel room was clean, pleasant, and up to date. the clubhouse with its disco, sports pub, piano bar, restaurant, and health club was top notch. the pools, hot tubs, and patios were well maintained, nicely landscaped, and lots of fun. the staff were attentive and friendly. they went out of the way to remember our names. during the week things were rather subdued, but on the weekend the place came alive. the crowd included plenty of couples around our age (40's)....we can't wait to gt back there again!

the only improvements we would make are: an in-room safe, turning up the heater in the large pool, and turning the pool area music on a little earlier.
