I am not a fan of chains, but after surgery decided a late big breakfast would eliminate lunch. The South IHOP in Lakeland is old, not terribly clean and service has been so so in half a dozen visits over 9 years. Being on the North side of town, went to the IHOP at I-4 and US 98 North. It was bright, cheery, clean and the staff was super friendly. The Peach and Pecan Brioche French Toast - a seasonal specialty - was to die for. It came with 2 eggs, 4 slices of perfectly done bacon, and better than average hash browns. The wife had a simple Belgian Waffle and 2 of my 4 strips of bacon. Our server was super. With 2 bottomless cups of coffee, tax and a 20+ % tip, the bill was $25. More than we prefer to spend for breakfast, but it was worth every penny and filled a need following fasting. We will make the trip North next time I have a craving for a great breakfast. The manager of the other IHOP - South Florida Ave. near the Polk Parkway - should make a visit to see what makes this an outstanding spot!
