Superb, well maintained reserve. Excellent birding. Most water birds seen every trip, dozens of smaller warblers. Two nesting pair of bald eagles. Nice pavillion on lake that allows viewing/photography of birds fishing the lake. Many alligators visible. Multiple trails through different types of surroundings. This reserve is a destination every time we are in central florida.

NOTE: You need to book your tour at the beginning of the month! If they have extra space you can join but it is by reservation first.

The driving tour goes through three different environments and offers a lot of plant and wildlife. Try to go when it's less hot because the entire tour is outdoors and the do stop driving so there is no wind.

The guides teach about the local plants and we were able to get maybe two feet from a huge gator!

We took our 14 yr old grandson to FL for his Christmas present. On 1/3/20, we hiked a loop from the Shady Oak Trail to Alligator Alley Trail to Heron Hideout Trail. Wildlife was awesome!

Saw probably 20 alligators ranging from ~18in to 8ft, a raccoon running down the trail in front of us, turtles, fish, black snake, herons, egrets, anhingas, moorhens, whistler ducks, heard an osprey, etc.

We came upon a group of photographers who had just witnessed a large alligator catching and eating an anhinga. One photographer showed us his footage of the action that we just missed.

Would definitely go back again and recommend this park to others.

Note: One or two mosquitoes bit when we first got out of car. However, a good breeze was blowing all late morning into early afternoon which I believe helped with keeping them away and we had no trouble during our hike.

We saw lots of beautiful birds. We encountered a family of raccoon which slightly scared us. It was an adventure to see sleeping crocodiles. The big oak trees were very cool.

We've been here a couple of times and enjoy walking around the preserve. Lots of different, rugged trails to hike along and see an abundance of wildlife. They have a Nature Center and gift store and offer a narrative tram tour as well. No entrance fee but bring water and hand sanitizer since the porta-potties may be out.
