Don't expect the Hilton ;) we were on a trip to Miami and needed a place to sleep over. Girls at reception were nice (From Finland :)). Rooms are very basic, old stuff (think average dorm). But they are clean, good shower, good beds, nice neighborhood. We liked this basic stay.

Coming to New Sun Gate is like visiting your favorite uncle. Mike, the proprietor, will bend over backward to accommodate you. He is the friendliest hotel manager I have ever met! Come here, you will not be disappointed!

One of the most surreal hotel stays of my life.

First, the good. New Sun Gate is fairly close to downtown, a 20 minute walk. Lake Worth is a pretty neat city, and even the area around the motel is quaint. The municipal beach is a 15 minute drive and for a public beach was well-kept with pleasant people. The manager was very nice. He cooks breakfast every morning for the guests for a small fee. He also helped us out with directions. Now to the rest.

One of the few indications you're staying at the "Motel of the Stars" is the classic Hollywood celebrity written on your room's door – there wasn't even a picture of the actor in our room! This gimmick and the overall decor makes the place very kitschy and dated. It's made worse by little things not working (ex: the bright pink door does not close all the way so you must actually lock your door, some lightbulbs around the room were missing.)

Our room itself was alright, but not impressive. It was roomy with comfortable seating, and came with a microwave, mini-fridge, DirecTV, AC, and free (but slow) WiFi. The mattress must've been 20 years old and the sheets must've been, too (they had multiple tears in them and where paper thin.)

The whole place makes you feel dirty. The floor was FILTHY and after walking around on it for even a few minutes our feet were covered in dirt. There were small flies around the sink, and the shower had mold in it. Though the rooms are non-smoking, guests seem to not care. I walked by a few rooms where guests were obviously smoking inside, and our room had a lingering scent of cigarettes.

The pool was decent, but I'm not sure how clean it was. The good news for night owls is that it apparently is always open, despite various signs saying it closes at either 9 or 10 at night.

Most of the guests look like ex-convicts or druggies. In fact, one of them offered my friend crack.

If you're staying for a whole week, spring for a nicer, cleaner place. If you do stay here, bring a bottle of cleaner with you.

I was in town for one night and needed somewhere clean to stay. The New Sungate was just that, my room was clean, there were no bed bugs, the water pressure was good and the owner was friendly.

Just came back from 5 days @ the New Sun Gate motel. This motel is the best deal in town. It is a bargain compared to how much you can spend at other area properties. It was clean (not ONE bug, and I looked), the pool was peaceful, and it was quiet at night (one of my concerns). Mike does not put up with rowdy clientele and he is very involved in the day to day operations of the business. I have stayed in the area before and paid three times as much for accommodations, while clearly more posh, are not needed for a week away in the sun...please do not judge this property until you've tried it....it worth the risk ;)

We traveled for a work function and this is where they booked our rooms. Do we start with the roaches that occupied our bathroom, kitchenette and living area? The tiny sand fleas that overtook the bathroom sink and vanity? The dirty, stained and ripped sheets and blankets on the beds, the mattresses that were so old you slept in a hole? This was not a motel for vacations this was an efficiency where the residents live there fulltime. They all seem to be previous convicts on parole, never felt safe. The pool is disgusting and is not heated. The housekeeping staff is one lady that walks with a laundry basket of linens, towels that are ripped enough they look like rags. We were there 5 days, saw her once. The restaurant is only the owner in a disgusting kitchen, after seeing how dirty it is I would never eat food from there, and the menu contains 3 items. the walls are paper thin and the residents scream from 1 side of the building to the other, to each other outside so sleep is very hard to come by. the health department should shut this place down. it is amazing to me that this was found on hotels.com, I would assume they are reputable and check the locations before they put their name with them
