Lunch was wonderful. Great burger and the friatta was very good. Also lobster bisque was the best I have ever had. Carrot cake was the die for. the breakfast was way more than we could eat. Love the puff pastry and the loganberry preserves .

Breakfast was nice. The ambiance superior. The food was hot and tasty. Orange juice was fresh squeezed and the loganberry preserves for the Swedish pancakes were the perfect blend of sweet and tart. Eggs Benedict was served on a puff pastry which was a nice twist on the classic dish. For dinner, which was $230 for 2 (5 course meal) was overpriced because it wasn't anything I could whip up at home. They need to step up to a gourmet 5 star presentation to justify the price). I would recommend the sizzle grill up the street for dinner. Have breakfast (included with stay) and lunch here. The staff was nice and knew the history of Chalet Suzanne. We will return.

The word "unique" is very often used incorrectly and also overused. However, "unique" is correctly applied to the Chalet Suzanne. After all, how many restaurants have their own airfield as does Chalet Suzanne? But, that's not all. The entire country inn complex seems to be a blend of just painted and cleaned buildings, about to be cleaned and painted buildings and buildings soon in need of cleaning and painting. The overall effect is one of constant upgrading and maintenance that has been perfected over decades as the place has grown and been renovated with loving care.
The restaurant itself is approached along a path to a colorful doorway that leads into the cascading sequence of rooms filled with antiques and ending at the lakeside windows on the lower level. Along the way one passes a tiny bar on the right and, in the small banquet room on the left is the stairway down into the itsy bitsy wine dungeon. I doubt that the wines therein are really available for drinking since I noticed several dusty bottles of Beaujolais Nouveau from the 1970s. Who would drink those? On the other hand, the dungeon provided a couple of open bottles of more drinkable wines to sample with the glasses provided. It was a nice, classy touch and adds to the unique aspect of the entire place.
The servers and the owner (who stopped at our table to introduce herself as a third or fourth generation owner) were knowledgeable and forthcoming about the Inn and the restaurant's history and fare. The ambiance is outstanding. The rooms, with their creaky stairs and funky lighting fixtures are crammed with mismatched place settings and antique furniture. It is fun.
The menu items are very nice... and expensive. Probably, really, just a bit too expensive. But if you can get a voucher or discount coupon somewhere it becomes somewhat reasonable, especially for a special occasion, perhaps. For example, I had the Maryland Crab cake appetizer ($17) and the Lobster Newberg ($48) and a glass of cab ($10). My wife had the "Moon" soup ($8) and the 10oz Filet ($38) and a glass of cab ($10). All were excellent. There is a routine service charge of 20% added to the bill, so tipping is optional.
All in all, I would recommend this unique place. But be prepared for an expensive meal.

The restaurant is close to bok tower and is like a princess cottage. Everything inside is a hodgepodge of antiques. Lace tablecloths, china dishes, and formal setting. We had lunch so it was more laid back but we did the four course lunch so it ended up for the two of us close to $100. You do not have to do the four course though. Everything is hand made so the food is not processed, made to order, and fresh. It is on a small pond so after our waiter let us feed the turtles. This is an original!

Thank you for your admiration of our property, food, and service. We do our best to please every guest. It sounds like you are a person with the same heart as the Hinshaws. I have many times referred to our little buildings as a "princess castle", especially to the little girls that visit us. Please return at your earliest convenience. Sincerely, Dee Hinshaw

Waited a long time to be there & was happy we did. It was quaint, romantic & quiet. The rooms are all themed, but if you are a large or tall person, better check with the front desk on accommodations. The soup cannery was closed, but the young man who makes the soups gave us a personal guided tour. We bought several cans of soups, and made the famous orange aspic cake when we got back home. The dinners are pricy, but they offered a dinner for two special that was reasonable & filling. Ceasar salad are huge, & lots of fresh baked breads. Fresh coffee ended a delightful evening. Our bed was comfy & clean! The truffles & brandy in the room was a treat too. Breakfast was delicious...I had the eggs benedict & my husband had the swedish pancakes & bacon. Breakfast is complimentary with a overnight stay! This is not a place for children or teens, and can be unattractive to cranky, fussy people since it is an older historic establishment. Made you feel like you were in a European small town, away from the noisy crowds. The only downside was the housing developments surrounding the lake. Progress hurt the atmosphere but nothing they could do about it. Blame the developers for ruining a serene historic place!
