I should have done some yoga there. The tower bells were lovely, the tower itself beautiful (can people go up it?) and the gardens are so peaceful and lush. After 3 days of Orlando strip malls, this was just what we needed. My brother-in-law fussed that the price had gone up, but we thought it was fair.

I checked off "Family (teens)" but it was family: middle-aged and elderly. Why isn't that an option?

Bok Tower Gardens is a National Historic Landmark!
The Singing Tower is 205 feet high, constructed of pink marble and coquina (oyster shells) and houses 60 Carillon Bells, for which it was constructed. The Tower is adorned with tile mosaics, animal carvings and custom iron-work, and is surrounded by a mote filled with Koi (giant Gold Fish)! At an elevation of 298 feet, The Tower is one of the highest points in peninsular Florida.
The melodious bell recordings from the Anton Brees Carillon Library play every 15 minutes Monday-Wednesday and there are live concerts Thursday-Sunday by carillonneur Geert D'hollander.
After your leisurely stroll through the serene 50 acres of Gardens and up to The Singing Tower, you can relax in the Blue Palmetto Café and visit the lovely Gift Shop. A shuttle is also available
Don't forget to wear your walking shoes, you will want to do the complete tour!

Even though it was mid January there were still lots of flowers in bloom with bright reds, oranges, yellows, purples and more. The $12 entry fee was worth the walk around this "best garden in florida" or so it says

I know that you come to Central Florida to go to Disney and other theme parks. But what about taking an enjoyable afternoon to relax and walk through one of the pretties botanical gardens created. Bok Tower is delightful and beautiful. It even sounds beautiful when the tall marble tower rings out it's music through the air with it's bells. This is one of my favorite places in the world!

We've been visiting Florida for 25 years now, but despite visiting many of the different attractions over the years, we'd never made it to Bok Tower Gardens before today. This is despite the fact that it is a stone's throw from the old Cypress Gardens, now Legoland, which we have visited before.

Follow the brown road signs from Hwy 27, and you come to a rather low-key payment booth at the entrance. Adult entry is $12 in 2014. After paying you then drive about a mile and a half to the car park, occasionally catching the odd glimpse of the tower.

After parking, a very short walk takes you to the visitor centre, which houses a museum, information desk, restrooms, and a small theatre where you may watch a short video presentation about the attraction and its history.

Across the forecourt is an excellent cafe, and the inevitable gift shop!

The three main attractions here are the tower, the gardens, and the Pinewood mansion. When we visited the mansion was closed, so we missed out on that part.

The gardens are expansive and very well kept, with lots of unusual plants. You can easily spend an hour or two wandering around the gardens, and they boast that there is always a selection of plants in flower, whatever the time of year.

The tower is really the main attraction. Built on the highest point in Florida, the views from around the tower are breathtaking. We luckily visited on a clear, sunny January day, and you really could see for miles.

The tower houses a carillon of 60 bells, and Thursday through Sunday there are two live carillon concerts each day, at 1pm and 3pm. Near the tower is a seating area where you can watch live video of the carillonneur playing the concert. It's fascinating. However you can listen to the concert from virtually anywhere in the gardens, as the sound of the bell carries so well.

This place is great. The music, tower, gardens and facilities make for a great short day out. The location also has a wonderful atmosphere of tranquility and serenity about it. If you fancy a change from the hustle and bustle of the major parks, why not give this a try?
