Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites
What wonderful new hotel. Very friendly, easy check-in. Cheryl checked us in and she was the nicest most helpful front desk person I've dealt with in a long time. My request for two queen beds instead of the king I reserved was accepted cheerfully with a comment of "I'll waive the extra $10 that is usually charged for two queens and "would you like a lake view?".
The whole hotel is beautifully furnished and the grounds immaculate. The rooms are spacious with very comfortable beds. The beds have two firm and two soft pillows on each of them. How do I know they were firm and soft? On the ends of the pillow cases the words firm or soft were embroidered on them. What a cute touch. The room had a table with two chairs and a desk with rolling office chair. Wireless Internet was available and worked flawlessly. Two receptacles for your laptop/cell phone charger were located on the lamp. No crawling around on the floor looking for a place to plug in your stuff. Lighting was wonderful. Room had a large flat screen TV. It had a granite top bar with coffeemaker, stainless steel bar sink, microwave and fridge.
The bathroom is large and the granite sink counter is placed at the 34" (approx) height. The towels are soft and thick. The shower rod is curved and the shower head is great. The water flow is restricted but most are now days but it didn't bother me at all. It had plenty of flow to rinse my hair.
Next morning my husband went down to get breakfast. It was not your standard motel continental breakfast. They had hard boiled eggs, rolls, toast, bagels, yogurt, fruit, hot cheese and egg omelet, several choices of juice and cereal, milk, non-fat too, coffee and tea. The very large breakfast room has a large flat screen TV and you can pick up a morning newspaper. Kay, who runs the breakfast room, noticed that my husband with two trays in hand was having trouble calling the elevator. So she came over, got the elevator and then stepped inside and pushed our floor button and sent him on his way with the instructions to just kick the door to roust me when he got to our room. You don't see customer service like that very often.
Check out was a breeze. We have never stayed at a HIE before but after this experience we will definitely be trying others. Sure like to find another one like this one.
We paid $102 per night.

Hotel is fairly new or heavily remodeled, in great shape. Stayed in the slightly larger room for a little more $, made it nice to be able to stretch out a bit. Bed was comfy, and they had 1 soft and 1 firm pillow on the bed (2 per person). Front desk staff was friendly and helpful. Had a hot breakfast that included eggs, sausages, toasted items, yogurt, cereal, etc.. really nice spread for a HIE. Was just going to use it as an overnight "sleep and go" but we ended up staying on property till early afternoon and swam in the pool a bit. Downtown Lake Placid had some really neat murals on the sides of some of the buildings, and nearby Sebring had a really nice downtown to walk through and sight see. Went to the Lost Mines Of Atlantis gem mine with the kids, they loved sifting through a bucket of dirt and finding gems. Also ate at the Herons Garden for dinner, excellent homestyle restaurant.

We stayed at this Holiday Inn Express on December 22, 2007, and December 25-31, 2007, while visiting family in Lake Placid. The property is brand new, only open for about 2 months when we arrived. The room was beautiful with a large granite and stone tile bathroom. The beds were new, very comfortable, and they provided 4 pillows per bed, 2 marked soft and 2 marked firm, very helpful. We had a view of the lake and the sunrises and sunsets were lovely. The outdoor spa was very nice, we used it a lot. The outdoor pool was smaller, 5 foot depth, but we saw lots of kids having fun in it daily. The fitness room was great, we used it daily.
The morning 'hot' breakfast got very boring day after day. The hot items were cinnamon rolls and the hot water to add to your oatmeal package. There was a toaster, too, with bagels. And don't forget the daily cold hard-boiled eggs. The woman who attended the breakfast was very sweet and super-helpful, kept it all stocked and cleaned up.
The rest of the staff seemed on the ball, too, and the rooms were super clean.

  • Liked — Everything was new and clean
  • Disliked — The daily breakfast selection could be improved
