“Nice Stay”
Reviewed May 17, 2013

Rented through vrbo.com and got a great rate with an owner. Property was exactly as pictured. Movie theater onsite plays DVDs which they have at the office or you can bring/rent your own. Seating is great, its like your own private theater. We were in a 4 bdrm/3 bath unit. Kitchen had everything needed to cook meals. Parking would be a problem with more than one vehicle. The game room upstairs had a tv and foosball table in it. There was a washer and dryer downstairs. The unit had plenty of towels and sheets. There was a hot tub outside the back patio. The subdivision wasn't very busy. Its about 10 minutes to Disney. 3 minutes to stores and shops. Easy to find with GPS.

We decided at rather short notice to take the mob (kids / grandkids, and those who pay the bill) up to see the mouse.

We got a pretty good deal on the units and were curious to see what it would be like.

We arrived just before closing on a Thursday night.

The Good:

The unit was HUGE. Did I say huge, and I am a typical American used to big rooms. Plenty of room for our family, kids, babies, etc.
TV service was pretty good and all worked.
Our unit had a pretty good assortment of utensils / dishes.
Walmart is 5 minutes away if you need anything at all.
The entire property is in pretty good shape outside.
Pool was clean and maintained.
Jason at the front office was GREAT! Kudos to him for helping us out (they forgot the baby bed, and high chair, even though he was working on his time). That really started things off with a nice touch.
WIFI worked and was fast.

The not so good.
The inside of the property is tired. The carpets and chairs were very worn. I expect this in Orlando almost where-ever you go unless you are at a five star place. While everything was clearly cleaned and looking the best it could it was tired.

The ugly
Don't get freaked out on the drive in :-). The inside of the resort is nice.

Not real sure about some of the other complaints about not having codes and such, they were crystal clear to us about codes, and how to do things.

Overall we were satisfied, and would consider staying there again, but sure would be nice to see the carpet / furniture refreshed. As a property owner myself I would never let a rental unit get like that.

Room Tip: Ask for an end unit, more light.

We stayed at one of these villas for 4 days during our Disney vacation. It was wonderful. We were so happy to have chosen a villa over a hotel or more resort style property. It just made sense to us. We didn’t plan on spending our days in a closed out resort but still wanted more space than a hotel room. The price closed the deal for us. We are already planning our next trip and are booking at this property without hesitation. I would most definitely recommend Coral Cay to visitors. You will not be disappointed.

We stayed here a few weekend ago and will never do it again. I don't know what type of management company is running this community but they need to take a serious look.

First, we arrived late at night (10pm) with no instructions other than to go to the reception office. We get to the complex and there's a locked gate. Thank goodness for the car behind us who were existing guests and opened the gate for us. We get the reception office and it's of course, locked. There's a note on the door saying use your code to open the lock box and only take the envelope with your name on it. Umm...WHAT CODE? We start to call the only number on the door and see there is a code that's etched with a key on the lock box itself.

We get our envelope out (although there's another one with another family's key code....REAL SECURE). We get to our condo and it takes forever to figure how to open the door since the code on our paper doesn't work. On the phone with the company for 30 minutes while screaming, tired kids are in the car. Finally get the door open and low and behold...ROACHES all over the kitchen!

We call the management company AGAIN as there's no way we're staying there. Another 20 minutes on the phone and they tell us either we can stay there and they'll fumigate in the morning or we can get a new unit. DUH. That's an option??

The company gives us the details of the new unit and we make our way over. Guess what? The code doesn't work AGAIN. They have to page the manager on site to get out of bed and let us in since the company had the wrong code in their system. It's now midnight. There are dirty dishes in the sink and wireless doesn't work. At least the in-person manager was kind and cleaned out the sink for us and inspected everything. Thankfully this had no roaches.

The next day we went to complain about the wireless since the code is supposed to be the phone number in your unit. Guess what? There's no phone number on your phone. Either call the agency again and wait 30 minutes or spend the money to call an operater. To be fair, the wireless was fixed the next day and we were able to stay the 3 days without further drama.

The initial 12 hours of arriving were enough to make us NEVER go back again. I hope you guys get your act together Coral Cay, especially since the units are beautiful.

We stayed 7 weeks in February and March 2013. Accommodations were very nice and appeared as presented on their website. We liked the open floor plan downstairs and especially the view of the "lake". We were hoping for a newer (flat screen) TV instead of the "old-fashioned" kind but were told right from the start we wouldn't get a new TV if we got a lakeside location. We loved the hot tub...when it worked...and when it was clean. I'll address that later. Also, not that it mattered to us, but we were surprised there was no futon and no foozball; one of the twin beds had been moved to that room.

The internet service was great...convenient having access right in the unit. A previous place we stayed you had to go to the clubhouse. The cable was good, too. The only recommendation I would make is to have DVR service so favorite shows could be recorded...especially for people who are staying longer than a few days.

We enjoyed the private theater...we used it 3-4 times during our stay and used the microwave in the clubhouse to make popcorn. You just have to bring your movie to the front desk across the street and they play it for you. There is also a fridge right in the theater room.

However some things were lacking. We had to go to the office to get washcloths, a broom and dustpan, and mop and bucket...they do not clean while you are there and since we were staying 7 weeks, we cleaned it ourselves several times during our stay. Also our lovely palm tree clock above the kitchen sink did not work...even after we replaced the battery. The office had no replacement to offer us so we bought a cheapie at Walmart and brought it home with us.

Other things we bought and left in the unit are: paring knife, tongs, frying pan (there were NO frying pans in the unit at all), clothes hangers (there were none in the unit), and vacuum cleaner bags (the office had none). Also we bought cleaning supplies in order to keep the unit clean during our 7 week stay,

The deadbolt on the front door was faulty; we almost got locked in one morning. We reported it to the office but but it wasn't fixed before we left ,so we just stopped using it during the night. We also reported a very slow draining sink in the master bathroom that was not fixed before we left.

We wish there had been some sort of booklets explaining the security system and the heating/air conditioning. We had no clue on how to use the security system, but did figure out the a/c. Luckily we did not need the heat (even though the temperature got down in the 30's several nights) because we did not see any evidence of a heating system.

Now to the issue of the hot tub...supposedly an outside company comes in to take care of the tubs. We did not see any evidence of this; the only ones we saw caring for the hot tubs were Coral Cay staff. However they had to be ASKED to clean and add chemicals; otherwise it was not done.

The other issue of the hot tub was that it was defective...it started going through all its modes with all sorts of strange codes on the display and even started draining itself 2 days into our stay. Coral Cay staff came the next day and shut off the jets and ordered a new motor. So now we basically had an overgrown bath tub on our patio. Fifteen days later we asked them if the jets could be turned back on which they did. Finally 4 weeks into our 7 week stay the new motor was installed, but even then only "jets 1" would work and water did not come out of all the "eyes" of the tub.

Through all this...my asking almost every day if the motor was on its way...the staff was always very accommodating and super friendly. Despite my negative comments the overall experience was very pleasant. The biggest disappointment was concerning the hot tub; all the other things were minor inconveniences only.

Room Tip: We liked 2333 for the view but there was a problem with the hot tub (fixed?)

For a traveller from Europe who is used to small apartments, the sheer space and extensive equipment in these nice townhomes was a more than pleasant surprise. Checking in after hours took some time and some phone calls, but thereafter we had a wonderful holiday at an unbeatable price.
Coral Cay's location may not be prime with regard to distance to the theme parks (about 25 minutes), but that is more than balanced by its price and the amenities it provides. It is close to several malls, supermarkets and the pretty Shingle Creek Regional Park, which is well worth a visit. The community grounds are well maintained. Our house overlooked the duck pond in the center where sometimes otters can be seen. The communal pool was clean and provides a great place to relax, meet some fellow guests or to play with the kids. There are also some play areas, but they can get very hot in the afternoon sun.
Our townhome was very spacious, clean and well maintained. The three bedrooms and bath rooms provided ample space for everybody. One minor detail was that A/C cannot be set per room, but is set for the whole house. This can be inconvenient if some members of your party want a different temperature in their bedroom. Towels and linen were provided in great quantities. A nice touch was the small package of laundry detergent for the first spin. The kitchen was fully stocked and had all the necessary equipment (toaster, microwave, coffee maker, etc). All bedrooms and the living room had cable tv. The living room also had a DVD player. Free wireless internet is included in the house. The jacuzzi on the back porch could easily contain four adults. When it became a little dirty, the caretaker came to clean it the same morning.
All in all, we could not have hoped for a better place to stay for our Florida vacation.

Came during spring break, would not stay again. 4 years ago we stayed at the Fountains - much nicer than Coral Cay.
. Pros to Coral Cay compared to the Fountains.
1) private parking
2) own hot tub on patio (no directions on how to use)
3) own grassy area.
4) condo larger than the Fountains

Cons
1) very dirty furniture and carpet
2) site showed game room within condo with gaming console and fooseball table - had none of these, son was very dissapointed!
3) very high chlorine in water and towels had such a strong bleach odor - it was over powering.
4) very very limited kitchen supplies.
5) washer did not work - filled with water and then just quit.
6) only some of the jets worked on the hot tub (no instructions on how to use)
7) tv's were very old and the one in the living room constantly flickered.
8) pool area was very very small - not much fun for kids.
9) needed more clothes hangers in closets.

We will make a different choice next time we visit Orlando
