“Mixed Experience”
Reviewed February 23, 2014

We stayed at Orange Lake Resort in February, we usually book a private villa when we holiday in Orlando. Listed below are the good and bad points.

Good Points:

Accommodation very spacious
Beautiful surroundings
Safe environment to move around the complex
Good internal transport buses around the complex, enables one to have a drink and not worry about driving
Lots of restaurants/bars on-site with reasonable priced food and drinks
Lots of restaurants just outside the complex
Publix supermarket at the entrance to the complex
Good for golfers with nice golf courses and golf academy
Lovely pool areas, especially at River Island Village and West Village where there is a sandy beach
Maid service after staying one week (we were there for two weeks), change of bedlinen and towels and replenishments of soap, dishwasher powder, toiletries, kitchen roll etc.
Close to Disney
Cashless system was very good but if you want golf tuition you need to take cash, my husband was caught out on one occasion when he assumed he could pay with his room card

Bad points:

Furniture was dated in our condo (we were in the East Village)
Media/Audio Visual equipment was very dated there was and old DVD/Video player in the condo, there was no music system, a small flat screen in the lounge area and three old CRT TVs in the 3 bedrooms
Kitchen utensils were very sparse, no scissors in the units which would have been useful
Rusty shelves in the oven
The dishwasher didn't clean very well
Bad soundproofing between floors, we were disturbed a few times by the family above us, it sounded like their floor was tiled (ours were carpeted) which made the sound transference even worse
The carpets in our condo were stained and the underlay was crumbling underneath
The pool hire equipment was expensive to hire, the rubber rings for the lazy river were $9 each (we didn't bother)
We had a nice, smaller, pool next to our condo units but the music that was piped around it was awful - horrible fringe jazz music (I appreciate that some people may like this but it is hardly mainstream music), in fact most people were reading either books or kindles and I think everyone would have appreciated a quiet area (my husband had to resort to taking his headphones and iPod with him to drown it out).

The restaurants were not very well patronised and we thought they missed an opportunity by not holding a BBQ by the 'beach' in their West Village.

We were called on the telephone once by a lady who said she had been 'assigned' to us and asked us if we were going to any of the parks (we weren't) she asked if my husband was going to play golf, I told her he was and she suggested that she could save him some money by showing us some of their newer units (timeshare pitch), I told her that, actually, we weren't that impressed with the condo we were staying in, she was concerned and asked what was wrong so I told her - we never heard any more from her, no- one rang back to follow up on my complaint.

All in all a good experience if you are lucky enough to be allocated one of the newer condos. Would we go back? possibly because we enjoyed the resort style holiday but would be interested to try other resorts to compare.

Room Tip: On arrival at reception ask whether the accommodation is new or refurbished, inspect the accommodati...

Greetings, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. We appreciate you allowing us to host you during your Orlando holiday and we’re glad that you took time to bring the highlights of your stay to our attention. We pride ourselves on quality rooms and villas, and it’s disheartening to hear about some in-villa quality concerns you may have experienced. We sincerely apologize for the lack of follow-up from our staff as well. We are, however, pleased that you enjoyed your experience overall and took part in many of our resort activities, including world-class golf facilities. Our hope is that you give us another opportunity to exceed expectations and show you how much fun we can add to your vacation.

Although as a family we didn't stay on the resort much, (we spent all 14 days at the theme parks which are 20 - 40 minutes drive away, 5 of which are getting out of the resort)

When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly Lady who explained everything to us and as we had to change apartments half way through the holiday explained how easy it could be! Once we had been booked in, we were given precise directions to our villa and the nearest hot tub.

On arrival to our room, we were in awe of the shear size. it is massive in the north village on the second floor.

The room was clean, well kept and quite modern.

The pool areas are clean, although we never went during the day, but definitely a great spot to talk to others when the lights go out.

The second week was much the same, although no hottub in the east village with a 5 minute drive too the closest one in the north village.

The staff were great and the complex when on is a great place.

all of the appliances work well, apart from the dishwasher which doesn't seem to clean things at all. But theres a sink and who minds a little bit of elbow grease? The washer and tumble dryer are VERY loud, so do put on when you are out during the day!

I personally found the beds average, but I think I'm been picky as my partner didn't have any problems.

No cleaners came in during the time we were in the apartment, but came and cleaned at the end of the week, and the next apartment was spotless! So I assume they are great at their jobs.

Thankyou so much for making my 21st special.

This was a great place for a family vacation. Fast check in and great service at the resort. Anything we required was dealt with very quickly and by friendly staff. The accommodations were a spacious two bedroom, two bathroom main floor unit. The resort had lots to do; five restaurants, numerous pools, lazy river, hot tub, water slides, kids playground, lake front sandy beach, large inflated slide, shops, two different putt-putt golf areas, and a variety of golf courses. So much to do that we did not get to all the things we would have liked. First, restaurants - we only ate at two. Breezes is next to a pool. They have an "all you can eat" shrimp on the menu. Our meal was good and we did enjoy the evenings live entertainment. We also ate at the River Grill. Harold was our server for our yummy rib dinner (all you can eat for $23). He was great as was our dinner. Second, activities. There is a cost for a 7 day pass of $54. We elected to attend a "presentation" to get the passes for $20 each. We arrived on time but after a wait of 45 minutes and still not starting the presentation we checked in with the staff and told them we were done! They apologized and we got our voucher to redeem on activities and left. Easiest " presentation" ever! Our only complain is that you have to decide right there and then what you want for activities for the week. We choose the 7 day pass for on site activities. This included tubes for lazy river, putt-putt golf, inflated water slide, etc. We did not decide on discount golf at that time and we could not get it later. The grand daughters (ages 5 and 8) really enjoyed the resort. The large inflated slide was too scary for them but the lazy river tubes, putt-putt, playgrounds were a hit. We also did a "golf under the lights" Legends par 3 walking course. Golfing in the dark under lights is not for me but it was a pleasant evening for all 6 of us. We also purchased a groupon for Cranes Bend executive course. For only $25 you get golf, cart, club rentals, range balls and extra rounds that day for no additional cost if times were available. Wow what a deal! Very fun and challenging course. We did two days and played two to four rounds each day. Can be slow depending on the players ahead but we averaged 1 1/2 hours per round. It has lots of water and sand hazards and includes an island green. Saw a bit of wildlife on the course : cranes, raccoons, and an small gator. Off the resort we only did two activities as our son, daughter in law and granddaughters had done the Disney thing the week before. We went to Sea World with another groupon for $59. Parking was an additional $15 for the day. Great value and a whole day of fun. Highly recommend. The shows were very well done but our favorite was the dolphin show complete with acrobats and diving show. We were mesmerized. The second activity was a Manatee snorkel tour at crystal river. Another groupon and a great activity. It was a two hour drive to the river. We were outfitted with shorty wet suits and snorkel gear and went out with 7 others (total of 11) on a 10 -15 minute boat ride to the river. We jumped out and swam up to the springs area where we saw lots of manatees resting. Then the manatee seemed to decide to move on out to the bay and the gulf to feed. We followed them out to the river. While we were waiting for the group to get back to the tour boat my son and I floated on the river ( only about 10 feet deep) while the captain spotted manatees for us. We would position ourselves and they would swim close beside or right beneath us. One manatee even put his face right next to mine and checked me out. Up close and personal. This was amazing! We saw mothers and babies, huge ones and all other sizes. The downside, if there could be one, is there were so many boats, kayaks and people in the water that it was quite congested. When we purchased this groupon the major complaint on trip advisor was the inability to book a tour time. We had no problem booking a week in advance but we heard, as we waited to depart, people phoning in to the shop wanting the same or next day tours. They were disappointed as it was completely booked. The only other downside that we experienced on this vacation were the NUMEROUS toll roads. We took lots of change in anticipation and went through it all ($15) and more during our trip to and from the airport and to Crystal River. We found that the drive with google map app with the "no toll" engaged just took too much time so we just paid the tolls. To sum it up - we had a great time and would highly recommend this resort and location for a relaxing family vacation.

As a long time owner I never tire of returning to Orange Lake. Check-in was much more hassle free and quick this time than ever before, grounds and pools are always well kept. Eleven of us went to the comedy/dinner show midweek and enjoyed the show--dinner and service was not good though! We had a three bedroom condo that needed minor repairs: my 89 year old mother was locked inside her bathroom unable to get out and our front chain on door needed a screw, both were taken care of within fifteen minutes of calling-excellent service! My biggest complaint was the filthy carpet was so dirty the bottoms of our feet were black! Time for cleaning!! The clothes dryer needs replacement as one load took hours to dry. The very last draw was requesting a two hour extension in checking out we were told emphatically that would not be possibly as they were totally booked and needed to clean. This was very discouraging as this has always been one of the benefits they brag 'owners' have. Also when printing your 'free' boarding pass in the main building, you are unable to choose the airport, therefore unless you are leaving from Orlando International or Sanford you must pay to have boarding passes printed!!

Room Tip: As owners at Orange Lake we visit several times throughout the year: once with a large group also re...

Just spent a wonderful week at Orange Lake with several of my children and grand-children. We had pool view units at River Island and my family was very excited by the excellent accommodations. As an owner, I have been there many times but it never gets old. The units were immaculate and looked brand new while the grounds as usual were perfectly manicured. This is a spectacularly beautiful resort with many great amenities and going there never gets old.
All of the staff were professional and very friendly with a special shout out to Trish who bartends at River Island. After one time, she new all of our names and our drink preferences. Great job!
I took golf lessons from Rick McCord and noticed a great improvement in my form. Can't wait to try it out on the course. Orange Lake sets a standard difficult to emulate by other timeshares. Looking forward to coming back in the future.
