“A Great family resort!”
Reviewed August 29, 2012

This resort is HUGE! There are a number of "villages" here. They are the North, West, East Village and River Island. Our villa was in the east village and there is a small pool nearby. There are many pools located throughout and they are all very nice. The water is always warm and the water slide at River Island is great! The lazy river, also at River Island was the best! My family loved it and so did I. You do have to rent tubes if you plan on floating around and the lifeguards will check to see if you have a wristband to use one. Otherwise you can just swim though or hang out like we did sometimes.
The rooms are a bit outdated with the island decor, but they are clean. I read some reviews about roaches and I was very apprehensive at first. Happily, I did not see any bugs besides the occasional mosquito in our villa. It was very clean and spacious. There were some dead bugs in the elevator but that is to be expected in the warm weather I guess.
The restaurants had great food. Tradewinds offers a great breakfast buffet, quick lunch and somewhat fancy dinner menu. I was impressed by that! There are many other restaurants but we didn't try them since we cooked in the villa or ate out while at the theme parks.
I must stress that Orange lake Resort is HUGE! It took us about 8 min to drive from the front gate to our villa and thats when we didn't get lost. There is a Publix within the resort but they close at 11pm so no late shopping.
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: This is a cash free resort. I had cash that I rather use but couldn't due to this policy.

Hello and welcome home from your recent vacation stay with us. We’re pleased to hear all about our guests vacations and the ways that they were able to enjoy their stay with us. We’re honored that we were able to play host to your Florida getaway, and that your spacious villa was the perfect place to spread out and relax after plenty of fun in the sun. It’s great that you were able to give yourself some time around the resort as well as enjoying Orlando’s attractions. We noticed that you mentioned our Resort’s cashless policy. We find that many of our guests enjoy the added convenience of not having to worry with cash. However, in the future we do accept cash in exchange for Resort gift cards that can be purchased at the Marketplace. We would love to host you back again in the future.

We just return from the resort. The grounds are beautiful. We stayed in the West Villa, our villa was updated no problems. You do pay extra for the tube for the lazy river, you do not have to pay to get in the river just if you would llike a tube. You also pay extra for any water actives. The drinks are ok, if you do get a drink bring your mug back to the bar and you will get a discount off the next drink. The grounds are HUGE but the free shuttle service runs 7am to Midnight and you dont have to wait long. Its also gated so I felt it was safe for the kids. I did not see any Timeshare sales persons walking around on the grounds, they was mostly at the front desk area, not once did I see them hounding anyone. I did do the tour, but did not invest. I will return next year to this resort, we did go to 3 other resorts while we was in town and the grounds and space do not compare. The other resort was all on top of each other. The location was great lots of places to eat and Target was less than 2 miles. The Disney Park was a stright shot from the hotel. We did buy the Disney tickets at the resort it was $5 more compared to Disney on-line web-site. The last night we did get ants, we made sure the trash was out everynight. The only thing that was in the trash the last night was empty cans of mix drinks (the ants smell the sugar). Bottom line it was a great resort something for everyone, you will have to pay extra for somethings but if you know it in advance then your not surprise. Call the resort and ask questions. The West Villas are 30 years old but they have been updated within the last 5 years.

Room Tip: The West Villa are quite, close to front gates, main office, pool and water sports

Didn’t spend much time at the resort as we had a lot of theme parks to visit.

We booked through Virgin Atlantic and had expected a 3 bedroom villa with separate dining room which we were going to use as a forth bedroom so very disappointed to find ourselves in a 6th floor apartment with no dining room. Having said that the apartment was very spacious, well decorated, in good condition and clean.

The apartment blocks are nearly a mile from the central reception and shops so once we found another way out of the resort we never went back there.

We had a problem with the safe not working when we arrived but security came within half an hour to try to sort it. They couldn’t but got maintenance out that night and then came back in the morning to reset it. They were all very pleasant and helpful and got it sorted quite quickly. They were the only staff we dealt with other than when we checked in.

As the resort is timeshare, when we arrived we were asked about attending a sales meeting and they even offered us $150 to go but it would have meant sitting through two hours of hard sell in the middle of the day. We also got a phone call every morning trying to persuade us to attend a meeting.

We were only there for 10 days and there is no cleaning or change of sheets while we were there. A maid did appear on the last afternoon to change the towels (or look for a tip) but did nothing else.

We only used one restaurant on site as there are so many to choose from on highway 192 which were cheaper and had more varied menus

The main pool complex was very busy but some of the little pools dotted around the site were quite empty even though it was school holidays.

The resort is very close to the Disney sites and only a short drive to Universal & Seaworld. Busch Gardens is just over an hour away. So if your going to visit the parks it’s not a bad place to stay.

When using Seaworld or Busch Gardens I would recommend getting the all day meal ticket. It cost us $32 each and not only covered food all day but also drinks including bottled water. So we kept walking into the restaurants just to get more bottles of chilled water.

For the shoppers amongst you there is also a very large shopping outlet not far away

We stayed in West Village on South Magnolia St., right inside the entrance near the main road, from 8/17/12 - 8/24/12, and had a fabulous time! We came with my brother's family, and had three 7-year olds and one 5-year old. We requested to stay in units next door to each other and they did that with no problem. Check in was a breeze, and if you're firm with the timeshare salesman in the lobby, they'll let you go with no hassles. They'll approach you right after you're done at the front desk, telling you that you need to go with them to validate your $20 coupon for the resort activities. In order to get that $20 coupon validated though, you'll need to go through their presentation. If you don't want to buy, just keep telling them you're not interested. No problem at all. We checkin in around 2:00, and the rooms were ready by 3:45, which was fine, as we knew check-in was not until 4:00 anyway. They called us on our cell phones when our rooms were ready. In the meantime, we went grocery shopping at the Publix right down the road, and checked out one of the pools.

The condos were awesome! Nicely updated with granite, new cabinets, etc. The utensils were neatly lined up in the drawer even! We were given a supply of dish soap, dishwasher soap, laundry detergent, bath soap, paper towels, which was plenty. The room was very clean, had a HUGE screened in porch overlooking the golf course, nice flat screen TV in the living room, TVs in both bedrooms, 2 bathrooms-both new and updated. No complaints on the room at all.

Pools were beautiful! They get dirty with some of the landscaping debris after storms, but they are quick to clean them up. The pool right across the street from our condo was small, but very nice, and a nice pool to just walk to when we just want to swim for a short while, or just be at a quieter pool. The main West Village pool was very nice with lots of activities going on. It had a restaurant/bar, store, arcade, kids club, lake with jet skis and paddle boats. Plenty to do in this area. I highly recommend attending the Game Show there that takes place some afternoons. It's in the building with the arcade. They do a kids one first where they take 3 kids from the audience to be contestants. Then they do 2 rounds of adults. VERY fun, and the host is hilarious! The River Island pool/lazy river is also beautiful, very very large (can lose your kids easily), fun waterslide (must be 44 inches). $9 to get a tube for lazy river, but if you just start walking around the river, you'll likely find a floating tube that you can use. This is definitely the busiest pool area, but still no problems finding a chair. I think the hidden gem for pools is the North pool. Very beautiful, water volleyball and basketball, and a smaller waterslide, not real busy. They also had some activities going on here at times (water balloons, etc.).

We were at right at the entrance of the resort, so easy/quick access to the main road to Disney. It took us no more than 15 minutes to get from our condo to the parking lots at Disney. We came back from the parks in the afternoons a couple days to get a break from the crowds and heat and take advantage of the pools. We were close enough where it didn't feel like too much of a hassle to leave and come back.

The resort is very large and I'd recommend a car for convenience. They do have a shuttle that looked like came around quite often, but it was nice to have the freedom of your own car.

I would definitely recommend this resort to families. There is so much to do, you don't even need to leave. We wished we had more days to spend at the resort, rather than going to the parks. There are plenty of free activities, but there are also plenty of things that cost money. You can easily keep it cheap, but you can easily spend extra.

We will be back for sure!

I stayed at the contemporary last year and chose Orange Lake this year because I thought the grounds and pools were beautiful and would be nice for my daughter. The place is huge. You have to drive to the various pools. There is a $9 per person charge for the lazy river each day. This hotel is really ideal for large families who are on a tight budget and need a kitchen to cook meals rather than pay to go out to eat. Otherwise the rooms remind me of Motel 6 and I was not comfortable walking around at night. No towel service was ridiculous. As my 6 year old said "it looked much better in pictures than in real life."

Room Tip: Choose a different hotel.

We checked in August 2012 fairly late after a very long flight from the UK and were very tired.,I told the desk staff we wanted to view the rooms first as we did not want to change rooms if there were any issues.I was told they do not allow this but she would ensure to accommodate us best as she could We were two families and wanted our units to be close together but were given units in two different blocks on different floors although we were told by the front staff they were both on the same floor and they do not acknowledge priority club members,We complained the next day could not speak to a duty manager but had to go through their Resort Services staff who the had to email this complaint to her supervisor who was just in the next room. Her supervisor then came to speak to us and we repeated our complaint said that we could change rooms but would have to pay $150 for cleaning and then offered to accept $75. this was not acceptable to us as it was not our fault and they were in breach of what they had offered us. We wanted to speak to the duty manager but he was not available but would contact us later (he never did)
This place is geared for time share sales and if you are not interested in their sales they tend to ignore you.I already own a time share and found this place far to large and badly managed.
The units are not cleaned or serviced regularly, You need your own transport although their shuttle bus services the resort at 20 mins intervals, it is not very convenient .
The pools are not very clean and you have to be very careful as we have encountered poisonousness snakes on this resort.
Worst of all we were staying here for two weeks and the room was not cleaned just changed towels and left bedsheets for you too change your self. I have not experienced this anywhere.
Keep well away from this place. It is not as it seems!!!
It gives Holiday Inn a bad name?

Room Tip: Best rooms are near the River Island

we have just returned from our holiday 0f 3 weeks at orange lake resort in kissimmee Florida went on 4 th august returned 25 th .
I felt i should write a review on here as i was keen to hear many other reviews before we went away .
Firstly on arrival check in was fairly simple was given a $20 voucher and told to go with the rep to the other desk fortunely after much review reading i was prepared to say an assertive "no thankyou we are not interested ",
we were very tired when arriving to the resort and it took a while to get used to driving n the other side of the road the resort was difficuit to find in the dark too .
we were given our keys to the east village villa 2 bedrooms , we were very impressed with the accomadation very clean and spacious nice decor massive comfy beds really lovely home from home feel about it .also facing the golf course which was pretty to look at in the mornings.
The grounds were very well kept and pretty , the pools were all good we particulary enjoyed the river island and north village splash lagoon , lush cocktails by the pool bars with cheaper refills kids really liked the oreo cookie mockshakes .
My husband went to play golf at cranes bend with a groupon voucher which here really loved he joined an american couple who warned him not to put his hand in the lakes to fish out gof balls as aligaters present . talking of wild life tons of lizards also spotted a racoon and a turtle crossing the oad of which we aidedback to the safe lake .
we had the swapy character breakfast one morning which i would say was just ok bland greasy food did nt return for this and only one of the characters was present for photographs so the kids were a little dissapointed on this .
we had a delious lunch at the breezes bar in the west village and the bar staff there were really friendly and aminated .
un fortunetely 1 week into our holiday we had some complaints we returned one day back from a fun packed busy day at disney world to find our front door wide open nothing had been stollen but we noticed the cleaners had been to make the beds so they must have left the doors open all day clearly a near miss and an opportunity for thiefs .
The next morning i found i had several large red inflammed bites on waking , shortly after my husband found the largest horrible cock roach ever under the sheets , so distressed from this and the children were upset that we made a decision to stay in another hotel , we returned to the resort the next day and calledthe resort services the customer care person i spoke to was very nice and understanding and said that the room would be treated by pest control by our return .
when returning we found new sheets on the bed but also 2 more cock roaches in the bedroom we beleive that the rooms were not treated but rather the beds were just re maid .
we were not happy with this situation and asked for some kind good well gesture towards our one night stay at alternative accomadation the person i spoke to was very dismissive and matter of fact and said its not a problem now we were offered a small token of $ 50 meal voucher , as the room was clearly not treated we were told if we were not happy our only other option was to move villa we accepted this and we were told that they would waiver the fee to move how cheeky!!!!!
after packing our stuff al together we were re directed to the west village , however on arrival we were not happy this second villa was on the 5 th floor facing the high way we felt this was worse than our first villa and considering we had to move we felt we were in our rights to have some say where to , we were eventually moved to the north village to a very nice ground floor villa again facing the golf course and pleasantly near a swimming pool , at this point we felt happy and gratful we could continue our holiday although a little ignored that we had spent nearly a whole day moving and trying to find a villa the river island was totally full .
we were in our last week of our holiday and guess what found more cock roaches imn the villa , we felt at this point we definetely did not want to move to another villa so we felt we had to live with our guests .
our last straw was when returning to the villa on friday we could not enter our villa the key did not work my husband went to the help desk at reception i was told very abruptly you have been checked out we were checking out till the saturday so they had made some error when moving us , eventually after me and the children were sitting out in the heat waiting for my husband to return security cam along and gave us the 3 rd degree lots of questioning , after several hours we were given a new key and told that they had now resolved the error no apologies , we had just about had enough at this point of a cataloge of events building up to our complaints and felt we should have some kind of compensation this was not going to happen but offered the play pasees for the children which aloowed them to have inflatable rings and other activities not he hippo slide as not working , we did not actually use these
as only 1 day left so gave them to nother family who were gratful.
we had an amazing time in orlando and felt that this was our holiday of a life time and did not let these misfortunate incidents affect our holiday but we do feel it is a shame that we were dismissed often told that this will be documented but no actions taken we feel very strongly that the first room was not treated so lied to . and told this is what you expect in a tropical climate , i am sorry to go on but no i do not expect cock roaches .
we loved the resort and the pools but feel that the staff need to much more honest show empathy and compassion .
Now i have returned i have checked my credit card bill and guess what we have been charged for moving £120.00 i am not happy at all and would definetely not be interested in a time share on this property until they properly treat their cock roach problem .

Room Tip: ground floor is good for parking right outside your villa
