We have been renting a unit in Bldg. A since 2003 for one or two weeks in Feb. We enjoy the seclusion right in the thick of the business district in Marathon. The grounds are attractive and well kept. The facility faces a Marina on the Gulf. The pool is operated by Banana Bay Motel next door and is one of the best we've found. The units are large and well stocked. Although the MKBC is a timeworn facility, we see upgrades each year when we return. Sofas, tvs, wifi, etc. all have received attention in recent years. The bbq area faces the Marina and the covered tables offer a great picnic spot for the condo occupants and yacht owners, alike. There was one thing that we found off-putting this trip. The carpets in our unit were so dirty that our feet turned black the minute we tried to go barefoot inside. Hopefully they are on the REPLACE list, as they seem beyond cleaning. We will return. MKBC seems like an old friend to us now.

Room Tip: Request Bldg. A, B, or C for a view of the gulf.

It's a time share without the timeshare feel.
It is small, in comparison to most timeshares and what a treat that is.
Whole faclity is beautifully mainained. We spent time walking around, at the marina and the pool.
We were 4 adults and a 3 year old and we wanted the ability to cook in a lot and the kitchen was great. We were comfortable in the unit. (Guest bedroom could use a tv) But over all the experience was very good and we look forward to coming back.

The Pros:
The grounds were really pretty and well kept. The condo was a nice size and had everything you'd need in a kitchen. The patio was really nice. The location was convenient.

The Cons:
The sofa pillows, and living room chair were very worn and dirty. The chair was torn. Had the beds been comfy, all else could have been overlooked. The matress was no more comfortable than a box spring would have been. We tried out the twin beds in the other room in hopes of a good nights rest though they were of the same quality. The bed pillows were old and flat and had to be stacked up for any comfort. The bedding and linens were older and of poor quality. We cut our stay short as we weren't getting a good rest.

By far our favorite place to stay in Marathon. Been visiting the Keys for
over two decades, stayed in many other places but feel very comfortable
in this resort. The resort is a small timeshare community and
is open to the public for rentals. The units are very well laid out with
it's two bedrooms, two baths, living room, dining room and eat in kitchen.
The unit sleeps up to 6 people (the sofa sleeps two people) and has WiFi.
The swimming pool is large and shared with the adjacent hotel and there is a
Tiki Bar and hot tub. We usually visit in August and stay in building A,
which is closest to the marina and offers beautiful views of the Gulf. The
units date back to the early '80, which makes it relatively young compared
to many of the resorts in the Keys and they are well maintained and clean.
The units are reasonably priced considering they are the size of a
large apartment. I read a review that mentioned the mattresses need
updating, you will be happy to know that they were! The staff is friendly
and provide excellent service. We called the office to notify them of our
dryer not working, and within two hours they replaced it with a new one!!!

The outdoor grounds are very tropical and there is a picnic area with BBQ
pits and Tiki Huts. There is a small beach area at the end of the marina.
Nice to just sit in a lounge chair and relax under the shade of the palm
tree and take in the beautiful views of the ocean or the sunset. My
family and I met a nice couple who were docked at the marina. During their
fishing trip they caught a very large wahoo and were kind enough to offer us
several big pieces of the fish. We BBQ'ed the fish in the outdoor pits and it
was delicious.

For fun, there is a company on the premises that offers rentals for boats,
wave runners and kayaks. I love the resorts central location and it's close
proximity to shopping, supermarkets, restaurant's, and bars, some of which you can walk to.
Just minutes away are the beautiful views from the 7 mile bridge. A trip to Key
West is just 50 - 60 minutes away. Be sure to visit the Theater of the Sea
located in Islamorada. It's a Marine mammal park with lots to see and
learn. It offers swimming with the Dolphins and Sea Lions!

Some great restaurant's to eat at are Sparky's, located nearby in Key
Colony Beach, (you must have the grilled Grouper), the Sunset Grille, The Island
Fsh Co., The Key's Fisheries and Castaways. For breakfast try the
Stuffed Pig. If you enjoy fishing, I recommend the Marathon Lady which is just a
few miles from the resort; they have an excellent staff.

When on vacation I enjoy staying in places that offer me the same
amenities as home and Marathon Key Beach Club does that for my family.

Also, that last negative review was off line. Keep in mind that the Keys are
not about 5 star accommodations or fancy bars and clubs, that's what the
mainland is for. I am passionate about the Keys and visit every year for the past 2 + decades.
Before writing poor reviews people should do their research and temper their expectations.
I've read many poor reviews about resorts in the Keys and they are written by people who visited once and never staying at any of the other resorts. Their isn't a lot of land for big development so the Keys have a lot of old resorts. There are many places that are owned by individuals or a small timeshare community, like this one, that rely on the maintenance or rentals for the upkeep. These places don't have the deep pockets of large corporations and that I feel adds to the charm and character of the Keys. Enjoy the Keys for what it offers; good food, fishing, drinking, relaxing and all good things on or below the water!! I hope this review helps people.

Despite the age, it's a clean and well maintained place that I'd be happy to stay at again. Some things to note for those considering it would be:
1. Getting the upper story units gets you a vaulted ceiling.
2. Getting a Gulf Side unit does get you a nice view of the gulf, but you can also walk out to the marina and take all the pictures you want so this may not matter to some.
3. The BBQ grills are charcoal, not gas, so you'll need a lighter and some charcoal - easy to come by at any Publix.
4. The beds in the second bedroom are pretty hard. If you like a very firm matress this may be perfect for you, but my mom ended up sleeping on the couch becasue she just couldn't sleep in the bed.
5. They take long lunch breaks during which the office will be closed. You may wish to plan accordingly.
6. They are actually serious about the 5 mph signs and they will track you down and hassle you if they see you going 10 or 15. In theory they can evict you and you forefit all you've paid so be careful.
7. There's a $300 cleaning deposit, so be sure to do a good job cleaning before you take off.

All in all, I'd probably go back.

Room Tip: I liked the gulf side upper storey unit the best.

Our condo smelled terrible of mildew. No soap, shampoo, or salt and pepper. No office staff at all to help with questions or complaints such as unsupervised children in spa and pool drinking alcohol and smoking pot. 10 people in a 6 person spa mostly under 6 yrs old. The pool belongs to the resort next door. A $300.00 deposit required after check in for this dump? Half painted buildings dirty grounds, dirty old furniture, and a trash recycle requirement which is the last thing I want to track on vacation. Both wife and I bitten by small little bugs in the house! Absolutely no office staff available before 3 PM. We arrived 3 hrs early and had no one to even talk to about places we could wait. Finally greeted by an unhelpful angry robot. Run away!!!!!!

Room Tip: Any room at a different resort would be better.

We just returned from a week's stay at the Marathon Key Beach Club. We had a spacious 2 bedroom with a full size washer/dryer in unit. The master bedroom was very large with plenty of space. The entire unit was very nice. When we walked in, we could smell smoke. This is the first timeshare that we have stayed in which allowed smoking in the units as there were ashtrays in the living room. Being non-smokers, we noticed this every time we entered the unit. It was nice to have wi-fi in the unit as well. Our particular unit was on the marina side so we could sit on our screened in balcony and watch the boats come and go. It was very nice to have the screened in balcony as the mosquitos were very definitely making their appearance. This resort is located close to everything so it is centrally located within Marathon as well as within the Keys.
