“Good food, clean, bright, friendly”

In the context of 30 years of coming to Marathon I should rate this a 5, because it is as good as it gets for here. Just went for dinner with 3 of us - 2 chuletas with onions and one grilled solla (sole). Both very good. Minimal English but good enough to get by, especially with some help from the audience. Place is clean, well cared for, bright, clean table cloths - unpretentious, nice simple place to hang out for a meal. Good prices. I hope it does well. Don Pedro and others started out this way and then got lazy about their cooking.

“Just what we were looking for”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2013

Comfortable atmosphere with white tablecloths, really nice staff. The rice and bean side with my Shrimp in Creole sauce was delicious and the coffee was wonderful--genuine Cuban food. The young woman who waited on us was a doll. The day before we had come in for coffee and when I asked her what there soups were for the day, she said chicken soup. I said, "Oh, that's my favorite soup." She said but we don't have it today. We both laughed. The next day we came for dinner and along with my order she brought me a free cup of chicken soup.

“Great food and nice people”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2011

We were in Marathon last week and wanted Cuban food. We ate at the restaurant a few years ago. The new owners took over a couple of months ago and remodeled. The food is still great, the roast pork, spanish rice and black beans, yum. Had breakfast there the next morning, cuban toast and cafe con leche, outstanding. Stop and enjoy.

“Great Cuban food, great prices”

We wanted to go to Don Pedro's because it had good reviews, but we found it had closed down. So we tried Villa Blanca instead and were pleasantly surprised. It's just a storefront and the interior isn't much to write home about, but the food was great. We had churrasco (skirt steak), cerdo asado (marinated pork), black beans and rice, and fried plantains. All of the food was excellent, though the meat was a little greasy. Another plus - the drinks are really cheap. The service is slow but that's just kind of the pace of things in the Keys, so we didn't mind, plus the proprietor is very friendly. Just be warned that this place operates on Keys time, meaning that they don't keep set hours - they just close up when they perceive things are slowing down - sometimes that's at 7:00, sometimes it's at 9:00.
