The Perfect Breakfast Spot, reasonably Priced served in a friendly and casual setting( it is the Keys!)
Locals mix with assorted admirers, Hot & strong Coffee and Fresh Juices greet you.
All he Favorites are served at the"Spoon" Sausage Gravy & Biscuits? Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast? Homemade Grits(it is the South y'all Know) as well as Southern Sausage Omelet and other Omelet creations. The Banana Pancakes were memorable (the Banana's baked right in the Pancake!) We stayed in Marathon and three breakfast spots were recommended to us by the hotel. We decided to start here but were not thrilled. Looked like a lot of folks had just finished as many tables were empty but still full of dirty dishes so we opted for two counter seats. Dishes were cleared but the counter was quite messy. Took a while for the server to come and clean it. She was polite but not very friendly. I had an omelet and grapefruit juice. My husband had pancakes and bacon with orange juice. The bill was $22. Maybe we're not adjusted to the prices in the Keys but it just seemed a bit high for what we had and the surroundings. We love diners and eat at a LOT of them. This one was an average diner.

We were looking for a place for breakfast and saw the Wooden Spoon; while it doesn't look like much from the outside, the food and the workers made it a very nice morning.

The food is basic, home cooked food and was made fresh to order. I had eggs, bacon and pancakes, my son and husband each had an omelet. Plentiful portions, brought out piping hot. The food was really good.

The people working there could not have been nicer either.

Don't let the looks keep you from going in - there is much more to it than just a store front.

We only came here a couple times when we were staying in Marathon, but that's because we didn't try it until the third or fourth day. Great home-cooking, snappy service and low prices make this a worthwhile stop.

Amazing experience at the counter watching the cook run his grill like an orchestra conductor with his spatulas and lids tossing eggshells against a backboard over a waste receptacle. The Mexican omelet with chicken is a must.
