We were so impressed by our 2013 stay, we immediately booked for 2014. It is only due to elderly parents that we didn't prebook at this time.
If you are looking for old time Key ambiance, this this the place to be. The architecture isn't the key; it's the ambiance. From the office staff to housekeeping, no one is too busy to say "Hi", and to wish you a great day. The breakfast, filling and delicious, is a great way to start the day.
If possible, try for a beach front/facing room with a patio; the view under a clear moon is wonderful. Due to impending storms we had to extend our stay; the office staff, was incredibly accommodating about our extension; this despite a very full property.
Be on the look-out for Ashley, part of the Inn's staff; this lady is a rising star in the Keys hospitality business.
We're counting the days until March 2015.

Room Tip: Always try for a ocean view.

Hello...I'm Linda and this place was so relaxing my husband and I booked a return trip for this year!! The staff is very nice and the rooms were clean (although we had a couple of crab "visitors" in our room :) ) We were in the ocean front pool side room. It's an old Florida style hotel right out of the 50's which adds to it's charm. Don't expect all the frills so bring a hair dryer and shampoo but that didn't matter to us. We really enjoyed the free motor boat. We took it out to some of the local sandbars and were surprised to see schools of Tarpin swim by!!. It's a great place to fish off the pier or sit in the swing or beach chairs under the grass umbrella's and read or take a nap. Great free breakfast each day and awesome local restaurants too!! We loved how close it is to the Dolphin Research Center and the Turtle Hospital. All in all, this is an excellent place to relax and enjoy the Florida Keys.

Just returned from 5 days at Rainbow Bend. If you are "fishing people", or folks who just want to relax and kick back in a low stress old Florida environment, this place is for you.

My buddy and I rented the 2 bedroom with a fully equipped kitchen. Very clean, comfortable, but not fancy. If you want "tiffany's", this place is probably not for you. However, if you want to stay in a low-key, old Florida style place, with warm ocean breezes and fishing from a pier at night, this could be for you.

This hotel has a good, central locations to nice restaurants. In Fact, the one at Rainbow Bend is highly recommended. Not to mention that breakfast is excellent, and free. Also free are the runabouts to go after the smaller fish.

All in all, an excellent value for a resort that can appeal to you in many ways.

Room Tip: the 2 bedroom suites are a particularly good value

My husband and I usually plan our vacations and end up at golf resorts or resort and spa types of places (we enjoy being pampered), we travel quite a bit taking about 5 vacations per year, however on this latest trip to the Florida Keys we changed things up a bit. We have been to the Keys many times and end up paying $500.00 or more per night when we go. This time we decided to see if we could just land where ever the wind blew us and have a good time. We learned that you can do that and more!!! We found this place out of the blue. Booked it for a week because it was in the Keys and on the water. What we didn't know was that we could have use of a motor powered boat and just pay for the gas or that breakfast was free.
A little about the hotel. If you are looking for Luxury or 5***** don't stay here. The rooms are very old style 50's. White Tile, Pink Walls, no shampoos hair dryers etc. We found that we usually always packed this stuff anyway and it ended up taking space in our suitcase but this time we used it. The rooms are clean but as I said it has a 50's air about it. We had a beach front room and a swing out front for those nice evenings with a drink and the sunset. We got up each day and ate the Free breakfast, packed a few snacks, picked up some snorkel gear from the place that gives you the boats each day. We had a BLAST with the boats!!!! We went to restaurants for lunch, stopped and anchored up at so many different beaches and a couple of small islands. We saw while snorkeling, so many fish such as Starfish, Shark, Stingrays, Puffers to name a few. We found HUGE Sea Sponges on a remote beach. We swam all day in the ocean, used the hot tub at night. The only thing I can say bad about this place is the restaurant was packed at night (apparently this is THE place to eat in Marathon) so we could not get in for dinner. Ended up going out but finding some great places to eat. To sum it all up - could the rooms be updated? Yes but I think they would lose the ambiance of the place if they did. Is it 5*? No but everything else about it makes it a stay worthwhile. Will we go back? - YES YOU BETCHA!!! We never made it to Key West which was our original plan but guess what? We didn't miss it. We are now rethinking the whole Resort vacation thing for all of our other vacations.

Room Tip: Room 17 - off by itself, oceanfront by hot tub (not a busy hot tub) Large swing chair out front

My husband did a lot of searching for a place to stay in the Keys. I asked him to find a spot right on the beach. We landed at Rainbow Bend Resort. The location is beautiful...great sandy beach overlooking the ocean. We used the pool, beach chairs, grill area, and paddle boat. The best part was being able to take a boat out on the ocean. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. My husband and I had to switch rooms during our stay, and the staff moved all our things...even put our items in the fridge for us. The rooms are older, but comfortable. We were looking for a place to relax and enjoy our time away from the cold winter, and we found it. My husband and I enjoyed our stay and the friendly, helpful staff we encountered. We will stay here again...especially for the view and the boats!

Stayed her for 2 nights January 2014 having visited previously in 2012. This place is in a great location with a small patch of sand and views over the sea. It has a lovely swimming pool and hottub. However the rooms do desperately need renovation, although they are very old style caribbean relaxed. We were initially given room 2 which is under the cafe and just found it too noisy. Marsha on Reception was very helpful and we changed rooms to another building, which was fine and had a view of the sea. The room smelt very damp at first like it hadn't been used for a bit, but after a bit of airing it was ok. Fridge in room and microwave with some crockery and cutlery to use. Toilet, sink and juccuzzi bath were reached through pair of western saloon style doors, which was very weird, although very clean with lots of towels.
All in all a nice stay for 2 nights, although please read my review on the Hideaway cafe upstairs!
Would stay here again probably, although they have a lot of competition now that Holiday Inn Express have appeared in the Keys.

Room Tip: Keep away from Rooms 2 AND 3

We just spent a 4 day romantic weekend at Rainbow Bend. First the good stuff... The location is beautiful. The on site restaurant serves very fine food with great service. The pool is clean and well kept. The grounds are well kept. The rental boats are perfect for cruising around the local waters, and in our case they were included with the room rate. On the down side, the furnishings are straight out of 1982, and the facilities have not been updated in a long time. If you are looking for a simple relaxing time, this place is perfect. If you want luxurious accommodations, go someplace else.
