Our family of four and two small terriers had a great week's stay during spring break 2011. We live in Tampa and drive to the Keys several times a year to fish, dive and relax. This was our first stay at Rainbow Bend and it was excellent, from the included breakfast to the room and use of a boat that got us to the fishing/diving spots a few miles offshore. If you want a nice, quaint, relaxing weekend or week in the Keys I would recommend Rainbow Bend. It's an easy drive to Key West for a night out and only a few miles into Marathon for groceries and restaurants. For you first-timers to the Keys, beware of every property calling itself a 5-star resort. Rainbow Bend, on the prime ocean-side part of the Keys I should add, doesn't oversell itself; it simply gives a family everything it needs for a good time in paradise with its comfortable setting in the heart of the Keys.

The service is very down to earth and willing to help find a solution to any difficulty you may encounter. Every afternoon while fishing the rooms where cleaned and organized perfectly. The location is unbeatable right on the water and there is an authentic Florida Keys environment. The fishing is excellent and reefs are straight out from the hotel. The rooms are a good size and have any amenities needed. The part that really makes me come back quarterly is the fact that you do not have to pay for docking a boat or cleaning it because they provide it. This is an incredible deal. Boat rentals are he price of these rooms! Enjoy your stay and catch one for me!

Room Tip: Go for beach side rooms, upstairs, with balcony!

My husband and I and our dogs have stayed at Rainbow Bend several times. We love it. It is clean and very peaceful. Everyone is very friendly and they want to make sure that you have everything you need...plus it's really wonderful to find a place that is dog friendly..We are looking forward to our next vacation here :-)

Our room had one window facing a walkway and was dark and very outdated. The free boat rental is a joke, the tide was so low you could not even take the boat out the entire time. There is no beach or even nice area to sit unless you sit by the pool. The price they charge per night for what you get is unreasonable. We were in Florida for 10 days and this was by far the absolute worst place, I would not return. Look elsewhere, there were TONS more options but they wouldn't refund any of our 3 nights so we were stuck at $190 per night.
I read the other negative reviews and thought people were overly critical - this is NOT the case, they are accurate. this place is awful.

Location: Fantastic.
Also its midway between Key Largo & key west - glad we chose here & not key west.
Accommodation Inside : Its dated, could be better inside, get rid of the bedroom carpets & replace with tiles, get new beds, replace the faulty blinds, update the bathroom, apart from that its ok. As mentioned it is somewhat dated but thats not a problem in itself & if the above was rectified [especially the carpets / beds] then you can live with the rest.
Accommodation/Facilities outside: Fantastic, good pool area, free motor boat to use, white sandy small beach, patio with table/chairs right outside front door with privacy & great sea view, BBQ area, loungers, Tikki huts on beach area - cannot fault this location.
Food: We had a breakfast deal in the adjoining restaurant [The Hideaway Cafe 10ft away from our room] with our 3 night stay & I have to say it was great. The staff were extremely nice.
We ate in the Hideaway Cafe restaurant on our last night - best meal we had in florida - cooked to perfection, smallish but perfectly formed menu, [not the chain store stuff which is fine sometimes ]staff again extremely nice. Dont let the decor put you off, this is a great wee find of a place. The shrimp in garlic starter & the chateaubriand main are a highlight.
If your looking for 5* accommodation etc this is not the resort for you, If your looking for relaxation, great location & very helpful, nice folk then try this out, yes its not perfect but it has a charm of its own.
A mention for the guy with the bandana who served breakfast - you are a nice man & Rick [ i think is your name] the big guy with the DEEP voice - you were also a very nice guy-thanks.
PS To the owners - please ditch the carpets in the bedrooms !

Room Tip: Visit this place & the Hideaway Cafe
