There are very few places anywhere that offer the variety and quality of Castaway... and it will take more than one visit to truly appreciate everything they offer. Let me start with one word: honeybuns. Mmmm. Drinks before dinner? Sure... but it's a tough decision. 33 beers from around the world on tap... a full liquor bar (with tasty classic martinis)... and a wine list with a good variety to accompany your dinner choice. But there's where the real decisions start. Appetizers include traditional Keys favorites and a great raw bar that includes my favorite raw oyster style EVER -- Oysters Tokyo (sour cream, masago roe, and spicy kimchee sauce). Seafood? Yes, it's fresh (the owner goes out and catches a lot of it himself). From fresh local fish (prepared in many tasty ways) to lobster and stone crab (in season) to even live Maine lobster, you have choices (but try the Stuffed Hogfish). Steaks? All good. My favorites are the Howell's Cut (the best damn filet I've ever had) and the tender and juicy Prime Rib. Sushi!!! Yep -- a great selection of authentic sushi (with the perfect sake to accompany) often makes me forget about the filet. There's a good variety of other things like Baby Back Ribs, chicken and pasta dishes, combo platters, even Sauteed Alligator Tail. While it's the oldest restaurant in Marathon, dating back to the 1950s, it was recently renovated and basically rebuilt from the ground up. A little hard to find at the end of 15th Street, but totally worth more than a few visits. There's even an outside tiki bar that features live acoustic music several nights a week.

I come to Marathon every year to Tarpon fish and this restaurant is always a must stop for me. Great fresh seafood and try the sushi if you want something different. Very nice rustic atmosphere and friendly service.

Unfortunately, the best thing about our Castaway's experience was their cute menu names tying in with their advertising campaign- with a Gilligan's Island theme. After hearing so much about it on the radio, we drove up there from Key West to try it. Big disappointment. My fried oysters tasted like they just came from a box in the freezer section of a grocery store- twice as much breading as the tasteless and tough oysters. They shouldn't have even been offered on the menu. My husband's seafood platter was a little better. As far as the atmosphere- there was a good duo band playing, but not worth the drive. No place to park. We actually had to double park behind an employee. Even though down near the water by warehoused lobster traps, you only get to get a glimpse of a canal. Overall- sorry, we won't be back.

We arrived on a Friday night expecting difficulty finding a special seating arrangement. We were led though a number of crowded rooms to a deck at the back on the water. As far as we were concerned it was the best seat in the house. While eating a top notch meal, we enjoyed the activity in and across the waterway. The waitress was great and the ubiquitous cat was no problem. While a little expensive, we felt the meal well worth it.

We went here on our recent trip to the Keys. It was a little hard to find (GPS needed! NOTE: maybe the owner needs to put a sign on RTE 1). We did eat some excellent sushi. The staff was friendly, the bill wasn't high, and the drinks were good. We'll definitely come back next time we're in Marathon.
