I'll start by saying I researched many places to stay for our trip the first week of July, 2014, taking into consideration: amenities, price, location and quality of the grounds. I liked that it was family owned and that they were trying to be as "green" as they can. The location in Marathon was within a short distance from most sites I wanted to visit and only 1 hr. from Key West. We used the free Kayaks and enjoyed it. Other reviews have commented on the condition of them but we found they performed just fine and had no complaints. Pay to rent elsewhere if you don't like them! We stayed 4 days in room 15 ( King efficiency). It seemed a little small due to the futon in front of the bed, but we found ourselves using it often to sit, eat, and watch TV on the flat screen tv. The bathroom is a little small but the shower had awesome pressure and we loved it! There is no medicine cabinet. Every room has an area with a gas grill, the grounds were tidy, we loved the bird and turtle menagerie and all the different fruit trees on the property. Our room was in a quiet area, the waterfront was well kept and there was plenty of Tiki huts and places to sun or hang out etc.. In defense of the folks that criticized for not having a swim worthy beach, their's is typical of most in the keys. During our trip we noticed in the news that there was an unusual amount of seagrass washing into the beaches. Yes, it may smell some when that happens but you can't change Mother Nature! Morning coffee was provided (all morning). The owners were wonderful to talk to and they went over and above our expectations to help us with where to shop, give directions and find the things we needed, which was not the case in the 2 other places we stayed later during our trip. The pool and grounds were well kept, clean and they had lots of lounges, floats and kids beach stuff to use. The Kitchen was adequately equipped, everything worked well, AC worked very, very good in 95 degree weather. The patio outside our room had a table and roof so it was pleasant even during rain spells. The place sits next to the Dolphin research center and there's a cute little place to eat within 1/8 mile. Sombrero beach (sandy and gorgeous) is 9 miles and is Very, very nice!!
No, this is not a fancy resort, but my feelings are that I don't ever spend much time in the room so why pay for a fancy place at twice the cost. I'd rather spend on DOING THINGS! Also, There were NO bugs in our room. Housekeepers were friendly and speak English and also helped us with directions to sites.

Room Tip: Look at their website photos provided and don't hesitate to call them to ask questions as to whe...

The location was excellent, especially if you are inclined to make day trips throughout the Keys. The family who owned the property were extremely wonderful. Amenities like kayaks & peddle boats were free; the atmosphere nice and laid back, true Keys style. The rooms however, were average/poor and are in need of updating. The furniture was "well-worn" and the mattress very uncomfortable and needed to be replaced. We are Floridians and as such are familiar with the typical insect inhabitants but we really don't want to see them crawling around in our $185.00 a night room.

Room Tip: We stayed in the 2nd Fl. King Eff. (Blue & Gold Macaw) room. If you are a bath tub bather be ad...

We did not want to stay in one of those impersonal same same chain resorts, so chose Gulf View from TA. Just what we wanted, an older style property with owners who had been there forever, and were laid back, but knowledgeable about the Keys. We had a two bedroom apartment for two nights, with a small living area and kitchen/dining. Not huge, but hey, a few steps from the Gulf and those wonderful sunsets who spends much time in the room. It seems to be popular with fishers, so we sat back with our drinks and watched them go out in the various craft available for free from the resort - never saw anyone come back with a fish though. A good place torelax after a day exploring the Keys.

Chose this place based on reviews here on TA. Wow, what happened?? First went to check in and the "niece" was checking us in and was not from the area and had no idea on any questions we had about marathon. Room AC would not cool the room despite being set on 60. Mattresses were horrible. Cigarette butts all over the beach area. I counted at least twenty. Chairs at both the beach and pool were broken (part that adjusted them up or lay flat was broken or missing) and most covered in black mold. Horrible smell emitting from the water (although that can't be blamed on the owners). 12 dead bees floating in the swimming pool. My daughter counted them. Dead leaves piled in every corner of the pool area, so you know they have been there for a while. White patch on the walls in my unit, was never painted over. And the biggest safety hazard, a standard $3 latch on the pool when the law requires a magnetic latch at a certain height to keep children from gaining access to the pool area.
We just left key west and paid less for a name brand hotel than we did for this property. I am highly disappointed.

Stayed here for 5 days in April and it was fantastic.
Staff are very knowledgeable but very laid back and relaxed which makes this resort even more tranquil.
We stayed in room 14 facing the pool and the Gulf. It was very spacious for the 4 off us and plus it was lovely and cool which is a huge bonus on the hot days and evenings.
The only thing that lets this place down is out of the control of the owners, it is a little fly called the nosee em fly which come out at night and pack a nasty nip on your ankles.
We found the best thing to combat the sting of these flys was a simple can of anti perspirant deodorant sprayed to the feet as its the only thing that has an effect on the little mites.
Beautiful location and a view of the gulf that will take your breath away on an evening.
Would definitely recommend this resort to anyone visiting the keys as it's central location makes it perfect for reaching all the islands in an hour or so.

My best friend and I rented two units at Gulf View; one unit was a two bedroom with kitchen for me and her and her two teen-aged daughters and one was a one bedroom (two beds) with futon for our college age sons and their friends.

The property was perfect for our purposes...which mostly included relaxing by the pool, cooking out and taking little side trips - to the nearby beaches, the Dolphin Research Facility next door, and a day trip to Key West.

The property is very well maintained; & the rooms, which are by no means luxurious, are comfortable and of enough size to accommodate a family trip. We used the grill closest to our unit every day and it worked perfectly. Ice was available on the honor system; the kids loved the paddle boats and canoes, and me and my friend loved the coffee in the tiki-hut each morning.

Room cleaning is low-key - she's there for your garbage and towels etc; but definitely not in your way.

The location was perfect for us and we loved the many restaurants, close grocery store and proximity to Key West.

The owners are sweet, hospitable and ready with answers and suggestions.

We are return visitors & we would not stay any other place in the Keys! We feel as if we are going home to visit family - the owners make you feel like you are part of their family with their attention, sincere friendliness, and true caring about their folks that stay there. The rooms were SO clean & the staff was helpful. Anything you wanted you just had to ask. It is a plus we can use the canoe/kayaks. We love spending time at the pool which is rarely crowded. You meet the nicest people at the Gulf View! Only having 11 units, you get to know folks, make new friends as most folks come to fish and sight see. This is in the middle Keys so you can easily make a day trip to Key West or to Key Largo if you want. Many places to shop. The new Outpost close by makes it even more handy to have meals and it is also a convenience store. We love to watch the wildlife that is a bonus. This family owned place of lodging is always doing something to improve it and working on it. The palms and the grounds looked the most beautiful I've ever seen them! We had friends there & got to see their rooms as well & they were quite pleased with them also. They were also very clean & the efficiencies quite well stocked with anything you would need to cook with. It is nice they are participating in the Green project & recycle. It is quite a relaxing, enjoyable place to kick back, get rid of the stress!! Thanks to the Nugent & Horvat families for always welcoming us so warmly! See ya next year!!

Room Tip: They have rooms to suit everyone in their particular situation. A regular room is equipped with frig...
