Go run or walk the 7 mile bridge and you will have done a half marathon -plus!! It's an incredible place to view history and water. Wonderful photo ops. If you have a chance, fish around the bottom of 7 mile bridge:)

Every time I drive across the "Seven Mile Bridge" I get a big smile and almost laugh. The reason for this is the thought of being the person who was hired to install the pilings that hold the bridge up.

As I go over the bridge, mile after mile, and look across at the older bridge (which isn't used any longer for vehicle traffic), I wonder what the installer thought as he completed the first support piling, then looked over his shoulder at the expanse yet to be completed.

Was he thinking "one down, ten thousand more to go?"

Drove the 7 mile bridge on our day trip from Duck Key to Key West. About a 90 minute drive to Key West from Duck Key.

Later in the week we came back to walk the old span. Parked on the Marathon side, and walked the two miles to Pigeon Key in 45 minutes. Did not pay the $12 to chill at Pigeon Key. Then walked 45 minutes back to the start for a total of about 90 minutes. Talked to the "save the span" guy at the start of the bridge. Bought a couple T shirts. Beautiful walk that should never be closed. Saw multilple sea turtles and a few fish.

After the stroll we walked down the stairs and over to the Sunset Grille. Had a nice lunch to top off the free tour of the 7 mile bridge.

After driving over the newer bridge a couple of times, we decided to take a walk on the 7 mile bridge. On the day we were going, it was pouring rain - no problem. We sat in the parking lot waiting for the rain to let up. Later, we went for a walk on the bridge - was very cool. Some nice views - you see the vastness of this location w/ the other keys and you think about the engineering for putting this together. Take a trip into the past and enjoy the simplicity of another time. Not sure but it seems you might not be able to go out on this in the future although there are groups trying to keep this open. Would be a shame if you could not go here later - do it now just in case.
