Nice beach but a little distance from HWY 1 but still easily accessible. This was a side trip that we really had not planned so we were pleasantly surprised.

We stayed there for about an hour and didn't like the beach as compared to other beaches nearby.
The water was not that clean as we expected. Its located 2-3 miles far from the US 1 highway.
Bathrooms, playground for kids and sand were clean. There were no big waves so we were getting feeling of a lake instead of sea.
The parking was free and plenty.

For a freebie beach in the middle keys, Sombrero cannot be beat. Sandy beach, run by the state of Florida, upgraded and pleasant. Extremely popular location. Come early if you plan on gettting a parking space.

This is a quiet and beautiful spot to laze away the day or just stop by to watch the sunset. Quiet, clean, off the beaten path. Many amenities. A fun place to take the family, or romantic for couples.

Sombrero Beach is a gem! A lovely park with shelters for picnicking, a playground (could use some shade on sunny days) and a nice beach. Dogs on leashes allowed :-) Great bike/walking path to the beach and good paths in park for strolling.
