“A very nice, quiet, simple place to stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 20, 2012

My wife and I just returned from a 5-night stay at the Seashell Beach Resort. After reading all of the mixed reviews online, we wasn't sure what to expect. We were both very pleasantly surprised. We stayed in Room 9, which is the King Studio with ocean view. It is a basic room but has recently been renovated so it was very clean and fresh. It has a full kitchen so we were able to buy groceries and do our cooking in the room. The king-sized bed was a little firm for my liking but that's the only complaint I have. This time of year (January) the sunrise is viewable from the room and balcony. We got up every morning to watch it. We did not expererience the odors some reviewers mentioned. The beach is clean and, more importantly, quiet. No jet skis or motor boats were seen or heard our entire time there. Housekeeping was very courtious and responded to all of our requests (extra towels etc.) and the room was always made up by early afternoon. It's conveniently located a few miles from downtown Marathon so it's again, quiet. We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Room 9 is perfect for couples! Clean and comfortable.

If you're in need of a place to stay overnight, this hotel is ok but I wouldn't stay for any other reason. It's not a resort, they don't have a pool or any amenities. The room was extremely outdated and dire need of just even some minimal sprucing up. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, it was sunken in the middle so I had to make an effort to not roll over on my kids.
Lots of road noise.
For what we paid, definitely not worth the stay.

This is a small hotel on North side of Marathon
( Grassy Key)
if you want the Ritz.. go to the Ritz,
but if you want a quaint laid back
place to stay ( only 60 miles to key west)
10 miles north of 7 mile bridge
this is a nice place.
The beach and grounds are more white coral than sand,
and the tide goes out around noon
and is back around 4pm and water is not very deep
near shore, but staff were very friendly and helpful.
They are biker friendly also,
becareful in parking lot with bike,
some parts are deep with coral /sand and it is easy to dump.

If you are looking for a local place with a Band
( everynight I was told)
The Brass Monkey by the K mart is the place to go
( say hi to Sammy the bartender!)

Room Tip: 10a is the smallest room and does not face water the are others have kitchenettes and do but cost...

I have a very bad experience with the responsible persons about sales department, they are very lazy, very arrogant, late to respond and not efficient at all.
We are a very big company used to make big activities, I do not know what they are doing with the small companies....

They have to revise their strategy or they will lose a lot of business.

View: Spectacular, ocean front (we were in room 10, two bedroom suite)
Location: Excellent. Convenient and close to all convenience stores such as CVS, Winn Dixie, Publix.
Quiet? During the day yes, but if your bedroom is facing the ocean side with windows, around 2-3 am hotel guests love to hang out in beach chairs under your windows and talk loudly, which does not let you sleep
Beds: pretty comfortable, matresses look new. Bedding is clean and looks new
Windows: most of them you can't open or close (they are old shutter style)
Kitchen: it does have dishes, but we could not even find the knife to cut the food with. All they had in the room is two bread knives. No can or bottle opener either.
Shower: you can ether have hot water or cold water in it. You turn it to the left - scolding hot comes out, to the right - cold. Put it in the middle and it shuts water off completely
Cleanliness: looks OK. However, the floor felt dirty when walking barefoot. We also found somebody's shorts and dirty socks in the dresser in one of the bedrooms.
Customer service. They are only open till 6pm, so if you need anything after hours - forget it. You also need to call them ahead of time to make arrangements if you are planning to arrive after 6 pm. Front desk person is pretty accomodating though and will tell you how to obtain the key after she is gone for the day.
Charges: the prices are pretty decent. Although they charged us for 2 extra people, which does not make sense. We were renting 2-bedroom suite. It was just 2 of us (adults) and two kids. They explained they base they are charges on per room basis, and it still does not make any sence if we have two people per room....
Beach: pretty shallow, lots of seaweed, not for swimming or fishing. But very pretty. They have couple of hammocks and complimentary kayaks. No unpleasant smell, mentioned in previous reviews, but it depends on the time of the year
No swimming pool.
Overall: if you don't expect much, this is a good place to stay with great view. Just be prepared and bring everything you need with you to be comfortable.

We stayed @ the Seashell during a horrific storm where everything in the keys was flooded from key largo to key west. Tho there was some flooding in our lovely little inexpensive sea level room, we were offered a top shelf room for the following nights @the same price. Well appointed, w kitchen, & well decorated w beautiful ocean view as well as free kayak use & dockage available. Very quiet, serene & romantic. Highly recommended especially for the price!!

from the reviews I was a little hesitant but was informed from the manager at the hotel that the rooms are being redone and it was. the grounds are nice and clean they do a good job at keeping everything up, there is a beach but not one that slopes down to the waters edge but drops slightly, what leads to the water is a white sand/pebble and palm trees at the waters edge with two docks.plenty of parking so don't be stupid and park under a palm tree unless you look to make sure it doesn't have coconuts, there are two kayaks for your use while you are staying there. I think people that write reviews have there heads somewhere in a dark place.I'm picky on the places I stay and this place surprised me and yes they are remodeling because I was talking to the contractor they hired I put that in there because a lot of places say that, then you get there its a lie

Room Tip: as of right now #3 small but cute
