Owner description: The island of Pigeon Key is a historic 5-acre island located in the heart of the Florida Keys! It was once the home of over 400 workers who built the Overseas Railway from Miami to Key West. Today, the island is operated by the Pigeon Key Foundation, a 501(c)-3 not for profit organization. Our Visitor's Center, which is the address listed, is where our daily historical tours depart from at 10am, 12pm, and 2pm. We also operate a Marine Science Center on the island, school groups from all over the world come to Pigeon Key to be immersed in the ocean environment found right around the island. Visit our website or call our gift shop for more information about taking a tour!

We stopped by Pigeon Key on a whim one day but unfortunately weren't able to stay because a camp was going on. We were able to eat our lunch before we got back on the boat but it was a great little key for a pit stop to eat, snorkel and relax.

We did the 2 p.m. tour and took the ferry over to the island we had Carol as the tour guide she was very informative.. she did a very good job of describing flagler's history and the formation of the train railway and the pigeon key experience.. they have some amazing old photos and artifacts that are in the buildings. Interesting side fact they have camps there and there was a group of kids that were there they stay there by the week. It's a fairly short boat ride less than 15 minutes the island was hot at the time we went but not too bad you can snorkel but only by the dock if you bring your own equipment we enjoyed laying on the beach and my son opened a coconut.. as others have said it pretty tricky to find the turn off you turn in where it says Knight Key Marina if you miss it you will have to go over the seven mile bridge and come back

We visited Pigeon Key and had a great time. All the staff we spoke to were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. It was a very pleasant couple of hours. The snorkelling under the pier was unfortunately not possible due to the 11 private boats that arrived as we were about to get in. They stirred up the bottom and reduced the visibility. The pigeon key staff were very apologetic about it.

Fascinating history of the building of the seven mile bridge given by docent who is very knowledgeable. Good to stay for picnics, I even did some snorkeling there. Had my three grandchildren, ages 4 and under 2. They had a great time!

We were pleasantly surprised with the snorkeling here. We were looking for a beach snorkel, and found a great adventure. Under the dock, the fish are abundant and stacked. It was like swimming in an aquarium! Saw a parade of parrot fish, several barracudas, snooks, and a few sea biscuits, and many more. Spent the last part of our day walking around island. Worth the visit, very interesting. Took a few coconuts home with us as well (with permission from staff) and had fun opening and eating.
