Owner description: The island of Pigeon Key is a historic 5-acre island located in the heart of the Florida Keys! It was once the home of over 400 workers who built the Overseas Railway from Miami to Key West. Today, the island is operated by the Pigeon Key Foundation, a 501(c)-3 not for profit organization. Our Visitor's Center, which is the address listed, is where our daily historical tours depart from at 10am, 12pm, and 2pm. We also operate a Marine Science Center on the island, school groups from all over the world come to Pigeon Key to be immersed in the ocean environment found right around the island. Visit our website or call our gift shop for more information about taking a tour!

Fascinating history of the building of the seven mile bridge given by docent who is very knowledgeable. Good to stay for picnics, I even did some snorkeling there. Had my three grandchildren, ages 4 and under 2. They had a great time!

We were pleasantly surprised with the snorkeling here. We were looking for a beach snorkel, and found a great adventure. Under the dock, the fish are abundant and stacked. It was like swimming in an aquarium! Saw a parade of parrot fish, several barracudas, snooks, and a few sea biscuits, and many more. Spent the last part of our day walking around island. Worth the visit, very interesting. Took a few coconuts home with us as well (with permission from staff) and had fun opening and eating.

We skipped out on the history tour early to do some more snorkeling (bring your own equipment) around the dock, but enjoyed hearing about Flagler's early life on the first part of the tour. The snorkeling was surprising good - there are a TON of fish under the end of the dock and some big fish too! All of the staff was super friendly. Bring a picnic!

My husband and I visited Pidgeon Key yesterday and had a great time. Reit, the tour guide, was knowledgeable and friendly, and we learned quite a bit about the history of the local area. The tour length was just long enough. I can see younger get kids getting a bit bored, but for older kids or adults I highly recommend this tour.

Great place to visit. If you are headed south towards KW, it will be on your left hand side. You need to pull in when you see Knights Key Campground right before you leave Marathon. You want see it from the road (until you pass it) its in Red train car. We arrived 35 minutes before departure time. We had 6 in our party. Kathy was very nice and had some info about our trip. She also checked to make sure the lighting was going to hold off before we paid for our trip. Its $12 for adults $9 for kids under 13. You take a 15 min boat ride to the island. Bill was our Captain. Very friendly and talkative. Our tour guide meet us out on the dock. We sat around and she told us a little about the island before she escorted us around the property. After our tour we had around 30 mins to walk around on our own. They had a place that contained fish. We got to see a hammer head shark and another type of shark. Also a few other fish along with some crabs. The kids went back to the boat docks and jumped in and swam around a little bit. Wish we would have packed our goggles. Over all, a great trip and you get to learn a few things about the keys that you probably never knew about.
