I'll start by saying that the food here was so good that we ate here twice on our last vacation to the Keys.
Lazy Days South is located on Marathon Key on a little side road just before the 7 mile bridge. It has an indoor dining room as well as a large covered patio that overlooks the water and the sunsets if you have dinner there. The atmosphere is laid back, you can dress up or wear flip flops and shorts. The slowly turning ceiling fans and quiet background music relax you as soon as you get to your table. The food is outstanding! The seafood was super fresh and always tasty. Go with one of the dinner specials that change nightly and you will not be disappointed. Prices are a bit high but the portions are huge and the quality for value far outweighed the prices. I would say that the prices are no higher than nicer restaurants in Marathon. Each time that we ate here we had leftovers to take back to our rooms. The food was not the usual fried, broiled or blackened fare and showed a lot of imagination. Big props for the Oyster Rockefeller made with fresh spinach and cheeses. I had the best Hogfish that I had ever eaten, coated in panko crumbs and pan-fried and then covered with tomatoes, peppers and Parmesan. The Grouper that my husband ordered was covered in a vodka sauce style pepper sauce that was outstanding and the portions were huge. In Atlanta for the prices that we paid the portions would have been half or less. Service was perfect and attentive. You must try their Key Lime Pie which was light and perfect and was true to the original unlike some other places that want to put it on a chocolate crust or cover it with sauces.
