“Perfect place to stay with your boat!”
Reviewed May 13, 2010

The motel was very clean with just enough ammenities. Our boat was docked directly out of our room (a 15' walk) and the motel is on a canal on the Gulf side right next to an access to the Ocean. They had a large freezer for all to use, several bbq grills with tables, a (warm!) pool, and the owners were really friendly and nice. And the price was GREAT!

They were wonderful - from the start - beginning with helping me to surprise my husband upon our arrival - by purchasing champagne and having in the room chilled when we got there so we could start celebrating right away! More amazing - they ended up giving it to us as their girf and wouldn't let me pay them back! Our efficiency room was exactly what we wanted - spacious, clean, and as we went fishing almost everyday - we took advantage of the fish cleaning station, the outdoor grill, and even had a fish fry with others staying there one night. We rented a boat for the week and loved the convenience of having it docked - just outside our door! Dennis provided fishing tips and advise about the weather conditions daily. It was great - start to finish - we cant wait to return and bring our entire family!

We arrived in Marathon without reservations and the place I had thought about staying was full. And the 2 motels before this I didn't like. When we arrived here, I ask Eric (the manager) if I could see the room, and he gave me this big friendly smile and took us to see the room. Although the bathroom was small the room was very clean and the beds comfortable. So we took the room for 2 nights. We so enjoyed our stay that we stayed the whole week. The landscaping was beautiful and having the dock right out the back door was a bonus. Also Eric and his wife are extremely nice folks.

Drove down from West Palm Beach with a friend to meet my fiance for the weekend, who is working on a construction project in Marathon for the next few weeks. I was pleasantly surprised on how comfortable and clean the establishment was. You can tell the motel is a bit old, but that is part of the charm. We got in Friday night...Saturday morning took a drive down to Key West, which is about 1.5 hours away. Came back in the afternoon, lounged by the pool. When the guys were done working we BBQ'd by the water(the motel has charcoal grill and utensils for grill) and lounged on dock listening to music enjoying the beautiful weather. The owners were on site every day to make sure the grounds were kept clean and to assist guests with any requests. If you like are into laid back FL Keys style vacations I would definitely recommend this place and to bring your boat!

Clean, safe, quiet, comfortable, & perfect! We found this place quite by accident. When we refused to stay at another hotel, we were driving in Marathon and say their sign and called them. Eric promptly answered the phone and said, come by and check it out. Boy and I glad we did!!! Eric and Leyda take such good care of this property. They go ABOVE and BEYOND helping their guests. Our room had 2 comfortable beds and a full size refrigerator, stove & oven, and microwave all of which were new. The kitchen had new cabinets, plates, bowls and utensils. The room also had a ceiling fan. This place was so clean plus they wait until you leave your room before any housekeeping! You can’t get that service anywhere!!! The property had exactly what we were looking for; a kitchen, boat dockage & a pool. Eric even helped my husband launch his boat. Did I mention excellent customer service? The hotel is typical keys ambience, with banana trees and palms and a local iguana (who runs when you get near him). I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Eric and Leyda really are special and when we go back to Marathon, will stay here again! If you are looking for a party place - go elsewhere. They have boat dockage right outside you back door, a fish cleaning table and bbq grills.

We were in the pool and Eric came and got us, so our daughter could see the manatee in the canal.

Eric & Leyda really take pride in keeping this property so pristine.

My husband had been dubious as to whether or not I would like the Royal Hawaiian because of its 50's traditional Keys style. How wrong he was! I absolutely LOVED it there. We had originally planned on only staying one night, then moving on to Key West for two nights. Because we had guaranteed reservations there, we were forced to stay for at least one night; but we cancelled our 2nd night so that we may return to the Royal Hawaiian! We were RIGHT ON the water---it was no more than 5 ft. outside our sliding back door! Boats cruise right up & owners stay here, thus the "Botel" portion of the name. When the conditions are right, manatees come right up to the dock & iguanas are just across the boat ramp. We had a small kitchen in our unit, with a full-sized refrigerator, small stove and sink, along with appropriate utensils. There was a grill or two & outside tables for dining by the water. The gracious managers, Eric & Leyda, are so friendly. They will spend as much time conversing with you or as little as you like. They were a great resource to us in locating sunset viewing locations, good, yet inexpensive restaurants, etc. If ever in the Keys again, we would beat a path to their door, not only to stay at the Royal Hawaiian, but also to see our new favorite people, Eric and Leyda!

I traveled with my wife, son and three more relatives, from Orlando Fl. and it was the most wonderful experince we had. The room were very clean with a full kitchen and new aplainces, not too many people in the swimming pool, because there's only 8 rooms in this hotel. You can bring your on boat and dock it right behind your room..The staff was very friendly and ready for all our needs..This place is Paradise and I'm lookink forward to go next summer.
