Last week for three nights I stayed in a golf view room with my 14 year old daughter and 10 year old son at Cheeca Lodge. At first we felt a little isolated from the action of the main hotel looking out over the golf course but it worked out fine and gave us a little more exercise. I would not stay in those rooms with little kids because of the extra walk. My kids could independently go back to the room if something forgotten so not a big deal. Every day we played tennis, once played the 9 hole golf course and biked around the premises. My daughter jogged the .9 perimeter of the resort every morning several times and felt very safe. I used the gym... small but clean and had it all. It is not a big enough place to bike for long and the roads are a little busy but it was fun. My son loved fishing off the docks but you need to watch out for the pelicans who like to steal your bait or fish. One got hooked while there and a fisherman was able to unhook the bird but this apparently happens all the time. In the morning there is a Tazo tea and Starbucks coffee station set up by the beach to help yourself which is excellent. Stretch out on a lounge chair there by the palm trees and it is paradise. The dining is good but a little pricey. The breakfast buffet for an adult is $30 and my average glass of chardonnay cost me $16. But there are some a la cart items reasonably priced. We often went out for dinner because there are many fun dinner spots in the area. We took a mellow snorkle trip one day from the hotel. It was very calm out but the water was cold around 73 degrees. We wore wet suits. Lots of barracuda, parrot fish and some other varieties. The pool is on the small side but there is a nice jacuzzi alongside. The resort is clean, lots of employees willing to help you out. It feels a bit big and busy but my kids felt very comfortable wandering around and it felt safe and friendly. DVDs are free as are the bikes, tennis etc (the daily resort fee covers those items). It was worth it for our family...we had a really nice visit!

My husband and I stayed at Cheeca for 4 nights and loved it. Our room was beautiful and very clean. The food in all restaurants was so delicious. We actually ate in the Sushi restaurant twice. My husband thought this was one of his top two sushi restaurants ever. Danny the waiter helped with suggestions and let us know if we ordered too much or too little. He was right every time. The Atlantic was also delicious, and cooked our fish entrees perfectly. Many places tend to overcook fish, but this was done to a tee. We also enjoyed the spa and grounds. The staff from the valet to the beach staff were friendly and polite. We would recommend this to others.

Room Tip: we had beach front so we could sit on our terrace and see the water.

The Cheeca Lodge is an incredible, ultra private enclave in the Keys.

It is 5 stars across the board, and the personnel is warm and professional.

This is the only resort I will ever stay at when vacationing in the Keys!!

Me and my three kids were looking to get away to a nice spring break vacation in Florida. Based on reviews and ratings, Cheeca sounded like a great choice. When we arrived at 2, we were told our room was not ready but would be expedited. We toured the property, came back to the desk at 3 and were again told room not ready. We grabbed some drinks, sat outside and waited. At 4 we went back to the registration desk, waited in line with three or four other families, and finally got the keys to our room at 4:15 p.m. Annoying but ok. The room itself was fine, but the screened in porch was not really impressive. Restaurants were overpriced and mediocre food, only average service (waitress at breakfast was great). We waited for 30 minutes one night and then were seated at a table that was open when we arrived. Beach almost doesn't exist, and not conducive for kids to swim in ocean. Every activity costs money except riding bikes ($10 for bait, $55 for a sailboat, $10 for snorkel and mask). Pool is small. Overall, waaay overpriced for what you get. Feels like they are riding on a reputation but have not kept up with services or quality. Not really worth the price.

Stunning setting in the keys - overall this was a great stay. We had an ocean front room with a private patio - it was the perfect place to relax. There are many options like kayaking, paddle boarding right there. The "adults only pool" was wonderful - great place to chill and have lunch. There is also a spa and fitness center there. Spa facilities were lovely - we had average massages... Some of the rooms are more updated then others. We started out in a room that was a little dated but moved to one that had a more recent Reno and was very nice.
We ate one dinner at the property and were very disappointed by the quality of food for the price. We had a shellfish tower and everything was ok but seemed like it had been sitting out for a while (oysters were dry and pre shucked...shrimp weren't fresh) and we shared an entree and our bill was over $300. We eat out a lot and don't mind spending money on good food but we definitely found better meals off site. It was a little strange that every time we ordered drinks (the exact same thing) we were charged different prices.
