“One of the best resorts I have ever stayed!”
Reviewed December 1, 2012 via mobile

I have been fortunate to have stayed at some amazing places in my life, and this might be one of the best! The location is simply spectacular for views and in islamorada. The beach is on a crescent shape so you get even more of a view of the ocean than most beaches. We stayed in the main lodge which is great for the shuttle they ofer or to have your car valeted.wish we would have paid more for an oceanview room, but we were at the beach throughout the day. The resort fee is a bummer especially if you don't use it. They should just add it to the hotels original check in fee. The grounds are pristine, rooms are well decorated, and service was a 10 out of 10! I will definitely be coming back!

The grounds of the Cheeca Lodge and Spa are spectacular. However, for better value, I would recommend staying at the Hawks Cay Resort just down the street at Duck Key, instead of the Cheeca Lodge. It is trendier, and it is easier to get a nicer room for less money.

We stayed in the Cheeca Lodge's resort view room that appeared to be frozen in time. The carpet needed to be replaced - it had unraveled in a couple places. The room smelled dusty. The fan above the room was caked in dust. The metal tongs for the ice were rusted. The AC was VERY loud. The bathroom had been redone and was quite nice. But even the amazing (massaging!) shower was not quite perfect with one of the valves was broken, so the water just sprayed on your face, instead of massaging your body. The resort was beautifully lit, except by our lower 700s building, where ALL the bulbs except one on the property were out. The pond - which was supposed to be beautifully-lit was dark. The wifi signal was too weak to pick up in our room.

If we stayed in the main hotel in a premier room, our experience would have been better, I believe. It is a 5-star hotel with 3-star rooms available for some of its guests, who feel like they have been left out of this luxury experience. I think the hotel should upgrade all its rooms to have a more uniform standard, even if the less expensive rooms do not have some of the same in-room features and amenities. They should be clean and more modern.

The main building is really spectacular with an amazing couple bars. No direct ocean access, but there is a salt water lagoon. The pools and hot tubs are nice. Resort amenities are pretty good, with free DVD rentals. Another thing that is nice about this hotel is its location in Islamorada, where there are plenty of good restaurants.

We had a one night stopover on our way from Fort Meyers to Key West. A friend told me about the Cheeca Lodge so we decided to give it a try and my only regret is that we didn't have a longer stay. The property is really beautiful and the staff couldn't have been nicer (Penny, our waitress on the beach gave us incredible recommendations for our trip to Key West). The pool area is great and your resort fee includes quite a few of the water sports. The resort fee is $39 per day so make sure you factor that in when booking because it's not included in the hotel rate. We didn't eat at any of the resorts restaurants which looked fantastic but did have drinks at the bar. A tad pricey but wow do they make a great blueberry mojito. If you're looking for a great place in Islamorada I don't think you can beat this place.

This was my second stay and cheeca and first with my family. Hands down the best family destination in the keys. If price is not an issue, i don't see anything anyone could find fault. Resort fee included a lot of useful freebies rather than meaningless add ons. We did not eat at the resort so I cannot comment on the food.

Lucky enough to stay for 7 nights. Staff so friendly and nothing too much trouble. We were given a glass of champagne whilst checking in and was informed of everything that was available at the resort. Restaurants are fabulous. Best fish we,ve eaten in the keys was at the Atlantic adage. Resort facilities are fantastic, great fun to fish off the pier.

We travel much more than the average family and have been to resorts and boutique hotels all over the world. Very few “beach locale” places top the experience we had at Cheeca considering we didn't have to have a passport and were there from Atlanta in a total of 5 hours by plane/rental car! From the seamless, friendly check-in to check-out (which was not happy for us since we didn’t want to leave!), we had a wonderful experience. While other comparable resorts may offer more square footage or larger pools, we never felt crowded. And although there were plenty of large families and wedding parties during our stay, we never felt like our couples vacation was interrupted or disturbed. We dined at all of restaurants, with the exception of the sushi bar, and found them amazing. We loved eating dinner at the Tiki Bar. The bartenders were some of the best we’ve been around. They worked so hard but were so knowledgeable and friendly. We had an islandview premier suite and it was so large and so beautiful and very quiet. I miss having the outdoor tub back in the real world/ The ocean front was full when we made our reservation, and while I was disappointed, I have something to look forward to next time:-) And the weather in November is AMAZING. There's isn't a beach like there is in Destin or Seaside, the Keys don't really have beaches like that anyway, and the beach areas served us just fine. My husband kitesurfs and windsurfs and loved having the easy launches. We loved being able to eat right there, but also have the option of walking 5 minutes to enjoy Mangrove Mike's. A must for lunch or breakfast! And didn't mind the resort fee b/c we used the watersports, the internet, used all the bottled water in the room, and the fitness center every day. We also used the bikes regularly as well.

Room Tip: Main lodge rooms seem to be the most updated and we loved them, but many of the families and couples...

This was our first stop on our ten day honeymoon. We spent two nights in this amazing resort before heading down to Key West for the majority of our trip. So many cool things about this resort. The grounds are amazingly lush and nice just to walk around. We enjoyed the pier at sunset. The beaches were so well groomed with plenty of chairs, but swimming in the ocean there... well not so much. The pools were fantastic and there was a private lagoon that even had fish in it. The big hot tub pretty much stays open 24hrs a day. One of the pools was for adults only.

There was a really cool pathway that had angled palms and tiki torches lit every night.

We chose a less expensive room with a garden/resort view so we had some extra spending money... specifically for a couples massage. And it was soooo worth it!!! After the stress leading up to the wedding and the airports/travel hassels... it wasn't until after that massage and steam bath that either of us really felt relaxed. It set us right for the rest of our honeymoon. Just do it.

Although the restaurants were really nice and the service was excellent... I have to say my favorite meal was just a cheeseburger at the resort tiki bar. I enjoy lots of different kinds of food... but it was as good a burger as I have ever had. I'm sure the atmosphere didn't hurt my judgement. I had it twice during our stay.

Take advantage of the activities... your paying for them anyway.

A really nice benefit was the 24hr free resort shuttle that will take you within 2miles north and south of the resort. The Lora Lie was a cool bar across the street on the Gulf side. Also, there is a store directly across from the entrance to the lodge... very convenient.

The only minor thing that was negative was inside the glassed-in shower. There was paint coming off the ceiling and the rain shower head was corroded and kinda clogged up with mineral deposits. So minor... hardly worth mentioning. It's just when you spend that much per night... ya sorta expect perfection. The rest of the room was fantastic and the bed... AMAZING!!!

Overall, Cheeca Lodge was as close to a Sandals style resort that we have found in the U.S. FYI- Islamorada is the Sport Fishing Capital... so go fishing if you have the time and money.

One more tip if you are anywhere around Islamorada. You gotta go to Robbies Marina on the south edge of Islamorada (3 bridge crossings to the south on US-1). Go and feed the tarpon by hand. Really cool experience. Watch out for the pelicans... they are professional thieves. Check out this link to our YouTube video from the day we went to Robbies Marina.
