Went to Kaiyo based on the guide book discription of the menu. We were wonderfully impressed with the variety. A full sushi ,shashimi and japanese appetiser selection plus a very good seafood and steak selections. Kirin beer on tap and a nice wine and saki list.
We had the day's special sushi roll as an appetiser, truely an original creation and delicious. I had the fish special, yellow fin snapper stuffed with crab in a lemon butter sauce with rice and vegtables. What I got was the crab stuffed fish plus two large scallops and two large shrimp, all in a wonderfully seasoned butter, lemon and garlic sauce, served with rice, jullianed carrots and baby asparagus. Simply scrumptious. My wife had a filet minon with a creamy bacon and cheese sauce. It was one of the largest filets I have ever seen served in a restraunt. And done perfect for medium, fire seared on the outside and pink on the inside with no blood, served with borsin mashed potatoes which were perfect. Mile marker 82.7 on your way down hwy 1, Great value and quality for your money.

They were very busy for that small Place. Parking is difficult. Bartender is a bit wordy, so it takes some time to get served. The peaches and cream dessert was good, but not as good as sex!! Make sure to view the size of lg sake before ordering. Too much for two people. We need to go back to try sushi. Sushi chef seems really friendly and English speaking ( first language). Overall service could be better and quieter :) and parking could be better. I wish I could give you an opinion on the sushi!

Saturday Feb. 4 my spouse and I and two friends had dinner at Kaiyo Grill.
Unfortunately we were seated in the restaurant next to the door where the noise was so loud we could not hear words spoken across the table. A better choice is to sit outside or toward the back of the room.
All of us chose sea entrees and the hogfish, scallops and crab cakes were all excellent.
Sides of jasmine rice and baby vegetables were very good. Portions are large.
All of us enjoyed eggplant chips as an appetizer.
We skipped dessert; the dessert menu could be improved. Prices are moderate.

Never disappointed at this restaurant. Food is very creative and delicious. Fish prepared any way you can imagine, always fresh. Large variety of entrees and wonderful sushi. Well worth the prices.
