Owner description: The Museum is dedicated to collecting, preserving, displaying, and interpreting artifacts, antiques, books, documents, photographs, and oral history relative to the History of Diving. We tell the international story of man's attempts to explore, understand, and venture under the sea. We also celebrate the special role that South Florida and the Florida Keys played in this story. The Florida Keys History of Diving Museum is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational institution focused on the Story of Man's Quest to Explore Under the Sea. The majority of the Museum's artifacts have been provided through the generous support of its founders, Drs. Joe and Sally Bauer, who hold one of the largest collection of historic diving equipment and research documents in the world.

“Must See!!!”
Reviewed March 7, 2012

I can't imagine how long it took someone to put all these things together. I am not much for museums and I really enjoyed it. I was sad when I came to the end!!! It was educational, interactive and fascinating. Don't drive by without stopping.

“This is a must stop for anyone interested in diving”
Reviewed March 6, 2012

I had the pleasure of stopping in to the History of Diving Museum this past Saturday. I have driven passed this more times than I could count and stopped in finally after years of wondering what was inside. I was expecting the same old cheesy keys experience that you get from Homestead to Key West. This was not the case at all! This place is wonderful and not cheesy at all. The interactive displays are well done and I have never lifted a silver bar prior to this weekend. Dr. Sally Bauer and the staff could not help enough and I have since had email correspondence with her on an item of mine (turns out to be a fake) As you may see on my profile I get around and this place is a winner.

If your a local tell a friend it is a real treasure. (Pun intended)

“Fun Little Side Stop”
Reviewed March 5, 2012

Interesting little museum that covers the history of diving from prehistoric times (hold your breath) until today. Admission is a little steep, at $12 for adults, but you can't accuse the place of not being thorough. Very cool old diving suits, and an almost fetishistic love of international diving helmets. Lots of opportunities for pictures of yourself (and your loved ones and kids) in helmets, underwater, and next to weird paraphernalia.

This museum is great. Very thorough and brought in a fun and informative way. Feel like Cpt Nemo as you navigate this treasure. Great gift shop as well.

“Very interesting. Lots of equipment to see. Lots to read.”
Reviewed March 2, 2012

The museum is well set-up, and very easy to walk through. Read as little to as much as you want. Awesome collection of world-wide diving equipment. The painting on the outside wall is just as wonderful as the inside.
