We had driven by here on previous trips to Keys but had never stopped. This time we stayed within a short bike ride and decided to give it a try. So glad we did - the staff are friendly, the food delicious and the décor is charming. Midway Café has the charm "boutique" cafes in large cities try, and fail, to replicate. We enjoyed it so much we went back the next day !
I had the two-egg plate and they were cooked perfectly (over-easy so I could use the toast to sop it up) and bacon (again, just right - not too soft or too crispy). My wife had a huge peanut butter cookie they warmed so it practically melted. You order at the counter and the staff delivers your food to your table. Selections are made to order and yet are delivered quickly and efficiently. Coffee refills are free. There is seating in the café and a number of tables outside, away from most of the traffic noise on US1.
The owner works the counter and greets everyone like a friend (one day her son was also working). Both days I noticed there were a number of locals who stopped in and there's no better validation of the quality and friendliness than their patronage. On Saturday we counted six trucks/boat trailers parked nose-to-tail on the shoulder so its obvious those in the know agree !
You really couldn't ask for more from a breakfast cafe'. We will definitely be back.
