“The quietest vacation which we had”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

Our arrival was wonderful thanks Jen! We booked the Malaysian Room from the 13th of march until then 25th.

The next morning we got a typical American style breakfast, we had the choice to select between French Toast, Pancakes or scrambled eggs. Bo offers various styles and is considered to fulfill all your wishes and this was one of many things which we missing since our return to Germany. The room was clean and equipped with a small kitchen which includes a fridge a small oven and a microwave.

The location was great for us 1 hour and 20-30 minutes to Miami or to Key West. As guests you get a access card for the Founders Park which is great to have a quite sunbath and fill up your your batteries.

If you want to skip the Restaurants which we did, the next Winn Dixie is approximately 5 minutes away at Tavernier where you get everything you want.

Thorn! Pls. keep it running. We will definitely come back!

Many thanks to Jen, JJ and Bo.

For us it was a wonderful stay at Casa Thorn.

Just around the corner from Marker 88 in a quiet residential neighborhood is a hidden treasure. We arrived late after driving from Ft. Lauderdale and Jen made sure that we had instuctions on how to get in. Thorn is great at getting back to emails or phone messages right away.

We stayed in the Secret Garden Room. The room was spacious and the shower was fun to feel like an outdoor shower. The property is very well maintained and all the staff was friendly and accomodating. Bo whipped up some hearty breakfasts. It is a pet friendly place and the house pooches are adorable. Thorn was very gracious and we enjoyed talking with her.

2 comments - They were having issues with the wifi in our room, but we were able to easily connect to the wifi in another room (seperate wifi addresses for each room). The other comment is the glass blocks in the shower don't cover enough and the bathroom does get wet. A shower curtain would help with this, but it really wasn't an issue once we figured out to put a towel across the floor. We still LOVED the place.

We would stay again!

Captain Joel and myself found this magnificent B'B by calling the Chamber of Commerce. The kingsize bed was the most comfortable one that I've slept on. The room had all the ammenities that we could use. Our breakfast on the patio right in front of our room was delicious. I had the best blueberry pancakes ever! Mrs. Thorn the owner is delightful. The entire mileu was incredible. We had access to the house which had photos of famous people who the owner had known. I thoroughly recommend the Casa Thorn. Sylvia Carroll

Room Tip: We had a room by the patio near the pool.

The location of this B&B is really great, at a central point when visiting the keys. Staff is friendly, and has some usefull tips regarding places to visit and to dine. However as soon as you enter the B & B, there are 3 small dogs running around, which may not be appreciated by some people. Nonetheless at first sight the place looks really nice and cosy, and has a very appealing swimming pool (which was actually far to cold to swim).
We stayed in the secret garden room, which has a great concept. You have your own small garden, which is very nice to have breakfast, and if you enter the room, it feels you still are outside as the room (and even shower) has lots of windows. However when you have a closer look, you will notice that room really needs some TLC, Airco needs an upgrade, as it looks old, and makes a horrible noise, and also the fridge was in need of replacement, as it looked old and dirty (and contained a since long expired package). Actually cleaning in general seemed to be done rather superficial, and our room was in need of some good scrubbing.

Room Tip: for people in need of some privacy, the secret garden room may fulfill their needs

My wife and I stayed in the Morrocan room at Casa Thorn. Our stay was lovely, peaceful, and most enjoyable. I highly recommend this Islamorada B&B. The enclosed pool and garden area provide a tranquil haven to relax in. As well, the Islamorada area is just a wonderful place to visit as you travel down the Florida keys.

This was our 2nd time to Casa Thorn, last time was march 2012. but we took two other couples friends along with us this time. I made sure and booked the three largest room's Malasian,Morrocan and secret Garden. when we got there on Friday afternnoon we were greeted by Ms.Thorn who is a wonderful lady, who is always open for all kinds of conversation and suggestions on where to go or eat. this place is cool , laid back and relaxing. no views of ocean or anything like that. but it has a bunch of nooks and chairs to read relax, get sun on the upper deck etc. But it is close to everything that we were looking for. we would spend the day out and about at different places, then come back in the afternoon sit around pool area and talk ,have cocktails (which we always bring wine, booze, chips etc.) then take showers and move into the night life (Full moon party at Morada bay was great). my group is age 38-50 from Miami.
we dont complain much, we enjoy good hospitality and we overlook little things that dont need to be complained about. not everything in life is perfect, i see people complaining on the boards here. I guess there are all types of expectations,, but for us Casa Thorn is perfect. it may not be for everyone. there are alot of pictures here to get an idea. at night the soft lighting around the trees and house are awesome. have a glass of wine , relax and enjoy this great B&B
its the perfect place to stop and go. I would not recommed children. we leave ours away for weeked getawys like this. we will be back !!

Room Tip: we stayed in secret garden. its a queen bed, may be small for those use to sleeping in king also th...

We stayed two nights in the Secret garden room. Room was not small, but there was not a lot of place to put our stuff.
The airco worked fine, but was noisy.
Breakfast was good and it was nice to have it at our own terrace. Parking in front of the house.
Running from this place is possible on the bikelane of the highway but boring as you don't get to see much of the water.
We spent two nights here. The first evening we had a nice dinner with sunset in restaurant 88 (MM 88) and the second evening we had great burgers at M.E.A.T. (with very tasty home made sauces).
Info in the room about wifi was not correct, but when we asked and got a different code, wifi worked fine.
Jennifer gave us a lot of information.
The setting of the house was very nice.
