Who knew that over 300 people were buried here from the 1935 hurricane? The marker is simple, but the story plaques in the plaza behind are an absolute must see! I have been to the keys numerous times and this time we decided to stop for a few minutes. This reflects the power of nature and how vulnerable the Keys are. It makes one think as you drive on Overseas Highway.

The Hurricane Monument is well worth the visit. The memorial plaques tell the story of the hurricane and 17 foot tidal wave that hit Islamorada in 1935. It is a beautiful memorial to those buried at the site, to the economy and railroad that was destroyed, and to the rebirth of the Florida Keys.

This is worth your stop to learn about the hurricane history and its impact on the area. Touching and tragic.

It takes just a few minutes to see this monument to the victims of the 1935 hurricane and also a crypt containing the ashes of many of the unknown victims. There are a couple of story boards which are interesting. It is a beautiful tribute.

Took the city line tour down in key west, and they talked about this event in history, we were staying close to the Monument, so we stopped in to say a prayer, very sad, beautiful site.
