Florida history buffs will appreciate the meaning of the Hurricane Monument in Islamorada. Built to house the remains of hundreds of the victims of the famed Labor Day hurricane that tooks the lives of many veterans and locals, the Hurricane Monument is a beautiful reminder of those lives that were lost. If you have time, talk your way in to the Chica Lodge property and visit the small cemetary there as well, which predates the hurricane, and has stood through time and many storms.

“Interesting”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

Husband found this interesting as he is a history buff. Those that's like keys history would find this interesting. A tribute to those workers that lost their lives in the 1935 hurricane - Labor Day storm. If you have down time, it's worth a quick visit.

Memorial Day is big deal around here. Honor the 200 vets who died during the big one to open the Key's to you as a vacation spot. Very well placed monument, looked great with the wreaths on it.

Interesting stop if you are into history. It is an easy stop right off the highway and the park is well kept.

“Don't just drive by”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

This just takes 5 mins and is worth it (you will drive by it on the main street). Just to see the coral fossil rocks it is built with is interesting but the story behind the monument is also.
