We have been eating breakfast at Bob's when visiting Islamorada for more than 20 years. Our recent visit was a disappointment as it was evident that more had changed than the prices which are steep at best. Although I am not ready to write Bob's off, I would try other places before returning.

We really enjoyed our breakfast and buns. We had a skillet omlete and cinamon bun and their coofee is delicios too. The service treats you like family. Too bad they close after lunch.

Read a lot about Bob's so I decided to try it out. Pretty crowded i thought for a Monday am, but found a seat quickly and the server brought over a menu. I had the blue crab eggs Benedict. That's with crab cakes instead of Canadian bacon - good idea, and mostly crab although I would have preferred the eggs a bit runnier. Not bad for $11, but $2.50 for run of the mill coffee. Four cookies and I was at $21 plus tip.

Would go again, but probably not this trip.

Thank Gregor B

Bob’s Bunz, 81620 Overseas Hwy, Islamorada, FL

Setting off at daybreak from Homestead, the southernmost city on the Florida mainland, to drive, most often to crawl, the nearly 130 miles along mostly two-lane U.S. 1, a.k.a. the Overseas Highway, to Key West, we needed breakfast. By chance, on the right, in the shadows of billboards hawking T-shirts and sandals and past concrete utility poles twice the height of anything green, at mile marker 81.6, or 81620 Overseas Highway, we came upon an eatery called Bob’s Bunz.
Bob's pun defies any obvious association with hygienic, not to say haute, cuisine. Nevertheless we ventured in, past diners on the front porch, into clean and well lighted restrooms and on to a table that, like the others, was covered with an oilcloth, one that was imprinted, not with the ubiquitous red and white checks of casual restaurants everywhere, but with red and white hearts.
Later, after many more miles along the Overseas Highway and sampling the preponderance of its restaurants, we could forgive Bob’s anatomical pun upon sampling his cinnamon buns. Bob’s Bunz, it turns out, is a serious bakery and a restaurant that is appreciated locally not only for muffins, pastries and buns but for other confections, including made-to-order, multi-tiered birthday and wedding cakes decorated with fishing motifs.
Bob’s opens at 6 a.m. and closes at 2 p.m. Before then, it serves every conceivable conventional American dish, from hamburgers to bacon and eggs to chipped beef on toast ($7) and the cinnamon muffin ($4). Bob's offers "basted eggs," which, the menu says, are "sunny side up but steamed on a flat top grill, yellow is soft, white is hot." But they also make the best of the Caribbean, this country's most bountiful source of seafood. You can order a Reuben sandwich with grouper instead of corned beef, and eggs Benedict with the meat of blue crabs ($11), not Canadian bacon. You can get a conch (“conk”) sandwich, though conch is no more flavorful and is only marginally less durable, than hour-old chewing gum.
Bob’s is a comfortable, courteous, clean, competent and reasonably priced refuge on the road to Key West. Except for the restaurants of a few fancy resorts on the road to Key West, you cannot do much better.

We had a late breakfast, early lunch before leaving for a boat ride from the Lor-e-lei marina, which Bobs Bunz is right next to. As family of 4, we each had a different basic breakfast food which none of us really cared for. The eggs were rubbery, pancakes very doughey, potatoes undercooked, and the kids meals nothing special. It was a bit pricey as well. On the way out, we tried some of Bobs Bunz (cinnamon coffee roll), and several pastries to take on the boat, none of which we thought was very good. The key lime cookies were outstanding though and went pretty fast. Service was ok as we were there just before closing and could see the help was ready to yabba. Would not go back again. There is no view to speak of here.
