The Islander Resort is build up of nice bungalows with typically 6 rooms, each having a private patio, so the concept is quite different to the classical and boring room by room hotel buildings. Relaxing on the patio in the evening and enjoying the warm weather makes unforgettable memories. Our standard room with 2 queen size beds was perfectly cleaned, the kitchenette was sufficient stuffed (dishwasher included). The pool area with 2 pools and a hot tub is great, and the beach is best what you can find on Islamorada (it's good to have swim shoes). The whole property is perfect for having a very relaxing vacation and we would like to come back for a 3rd time.

Felt a bit like the movie 'Vacation' when we drove up. My wife and I stayed here for two nights during our anniversary trip to the Keys. Since the place was not going to be full during our stay over Thanksgiving, we were able to get one of their nicer rooms - according to the reservation desk. It had a king size bed and kitchenette, with a door to the adjoining room in case we had brought the kids. It had an all tile floor which was easy maintenance, but not the warmest feel. The included cookware in the kitchenette would have been barely adequate had we decided to cook for ourselves. We would have had to supplement with a few pans/utensils if we were cooking for the family. The shower valve spun continuously so it took some tinkering to figure out where the hot water setting was located. Both pools were clean and well kept, but the hot tub was out of commission when we stayed there. The pool was supposed to be heated, but it was still quite 'refreshing' in November. None of the kids staying at the resort seemed to have issue with it - to be fair. The beach was of coarse coral sand, which isn't very bare foot friendly, but typical for most resorts in the Keys that have sand beaches from what I understand. We dined on the special Thanksgiving Dinner while there, and it was tasty enough, but were were seated at a table by the bar and between the smokers sitting nearby and the plastic awning set up to protect against ocean breezes, the atmosphere was lacking. Two person hammocks were sprinkled between palm trees throughout the grounds, and we lazed for a while on those, which was nice. The highlight of our stay was the beach bar, and the friendly service we found there. We asked our bartender where the best stone crab dining could be had around the area, and he hooked us up with a guy who was picking up fresh stone crab right off the boat. We chowed down on three pounds of stone crab in our room for less than the cost of one of us to eat in a restaurant. Amazing - and the bartender even loaned us a claw cracker from the kitchen. I would visit again with family, or multiple families - or maybe on a guys weekend to fish, but would find a more romantic spot on a future visit.

Room Tip: Ask for a room close to the pool if you'd like the convenience. Note that music plays all day u...

The first time we stayed at the Islander Resort several years ago, we fell in love with the "Old Florida" feel and you can't find a better beach in Islamorada. We got engaged while on a weekend getaway there last year and held our wedding there this September. Dee, from their Sales Team, could not have been more helpful and was just a pleasure to work with. She worked with me to make sure we got exactly what we wanted and made it easy and stress free. From the ceremony to the reception (the food was delicious) everything was picture perfect! The rooms are very clean and feature a nice screened porch and the property is very well maintained. The entire team helped make our wedding weekend truly memorable for us and all of our guests. Thanks to Dee, Connie and the entire team! We can't wait to go back again next year!

We picked The Islander for many reasons. One being, many friends have stayed here& raved about it. We were a family of 5 traveling. It was easy to find (The 70's retro sign, leads you into the hotel) The staff were very nice and helpful. We needed to be close to other relatives staying close by and we wanted a place for the whole family to relax. We cooked out, we enjoyed time on our patios and we really loved the whole property. Could it be a little cleaner, yes. But I felt that it was perfect for what we were looking for. We could relax or get involved in any of the activities and all in all it was a great trip.

Room Tip: We have a 3 year old and there could have been a little more for him to do!

First impression was I got a room on a military base from the 50s. My husband looked at me like where have you brought me. The room is clean, could use updating. Nice screened back porch. AC had an issue and I swear we had a new one in less than an hour! That is service. Breakfast was good, not 5 star but it was tasty and free. Wish there had been fresh fruit. Beautiful ocean view from beach. You must catch sunrise here, spectacular!!! If you know anything about the keys you know there are not typical beaches. Hard coral outcroppings and hard sand, wear water shoes! We took the steps down to the "beach area" and observed many crabs and rays and lots of fish. Good location for snorkeling. We used David at the water sports area. He took us on a kick a$$ jet ski ride that was worth the $99 and hour. What a blast. We got to see a crocodile and he took us through some mangrove areas that were pristine. Then to a private sand bar. David was awesome and the highlight of our stay at the islander. If you are picky, upgrade, the regular rooms have much to be desired. Although clean, they are outdated. The grounds are nice and service was fantastic. If you want fancy stay next door but be ready to open your wallets wide. Over all nice place. We really spent most of our time offsite, so was not a big deal. The jacuzzi was perfect after a long day on rough seas. The pools are pretty small, but ok.

We stayed at the Islander for just one night on our way to Key West. We wanted to drive the second half of Highway 1 early in the morning hence an overnight stay on our way from Miami. The hotel is set in enormous grounds with a good swimming pool and quite well laid out. The reception staff were friendly and the breakfast (included) was more than adequate. The rooms have a small kitchen area plus a patio (with white plastic furniture) which is enclosed with mosquitoe netting. However, the decor is tatty and isn't it about time that all hotels, worldwide, got rid of BLANKETS on the bed? Duvets, quilts, doonas - whatever you call them in your part of the world - with fresh linen covers really are the minimum standard. The cleanliness of the room was not quite there, the window in the bathroom was covered in cobwebs and dead insects and it all seemed just a bit "dusty". Perhaps no-one had stayed in our room for a while. It wasn't a super-hot day when we were there which was just as well because the air-conditioner sounded like a 747 getting ready for take off so it had to be turned off.

In summary, the hotel wasn't terrible, and was just about adequate for a quick overnighter. Nothing more, nothing less.

Just returned to UK after 3 nights at the Islander Resort which was the final stay after a two week vacation. Our first impression of the resort was not good. Most rooms are in terraces of 4 or 5 single storey blocks. The entrances are not inviting and the opposite sides appear rather drab with fly screens overlooking the landscaped areas. The 'beach' is man-made and is a hardened area with chairs and parasols. The edge of the 'beach' is of rather large rocks so getting into the sea is somewhat restricted. It really isn't a sea-swimming location. There are various items of water sport equipment and a pier for fishing, if that takes your fancy.

Having said all that, we booked into what is probably the most expensive room (Room No. 513), rather extravagant for just two people. It was delightful inside and we had no complaints about comfort or cleanliness. The very large lounge had a side annexe with a fully equiped kitchen, tea and coffee provided. There were two large flat screen TV's, one in the lounge and one in the bedroom. The bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with Jacussi bath and large separate shower. Toiletries were good and there was more than an adequate supply of soft towels and face flannels.

Upon booking in, we were presented with beach towels and advised of the complimentary buffet breakfast which, as others have said, was not extensive. We found it adequate and the muffins were super.

Nearby is the Cheeka Lodge which is considerably more expensive but on the same stretch of beach and from what we saw of it no better pool facilities although their garden areas were more impressive.

The staff at the Tika Bar were very friendly and co-operative as indeed were the reception staff. Within easy walking distance were restaurants and shops. Across the road and down a little is the Food Company, super fresh fish on a deck that is totally enchanting at sunset,. At about 6-00 pm they feed the fish, a sight well worth seeing.

Overall we were delighted with the Islander and hope to go back sometime for a longer stay. Our only problem is that its a long way from England.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, Room 513.
