We stayed in December after getting a reasonable rate from Priceline and knowing nothing about what we would be getting for our modest bid. This resort hotel has a local reputation as a party place it seems from our discussion with a local waitress and that can be easily imagined by the number of bars on the premises although we were there in an off season period and all was quiet. We had an unusual room with one wall of sliding glass doors that opened out onto a large patio that was unclear if it was dedicated to the room or to others as well. The room was sparsely furnished and there was a leak under the bathroom sink that apparently had been reported previously but not fixed from what we found out. This might be and OK selection if you have children who can use the shallow beach but the place did not appeal to us in the location with no view or anything else that we had.

Room Tip: Ask if you can get a room with a water view even if with a slight premium. There is a main multi-sto...

Greetings OBXRon, Thanks for your review and for giving PCI a try. It sounds like you stayed in guestroom 432 which is a one-of-a-kind accommodation with the huge private patio deck. I'll have my team follow up on the leak you mentioned under the sink. We understand there are different resort options in the Keys and again appreciate you giving us a try. We hope you'll consider returning and staying in one of our oceanfront accommodations. Wish You Were Here, Jason

We stayed for 6 nights, including new year's eve. Overall, I would stay at this hotel again but it is not without issues.

We stayed in the tower building, in a room with a beautiful view of the ocean. It was away from the Tiki Bar which probably cut down on the noise. We also appreciated the "free" wifi and DirecTV with plenty of channels, but there is a $15 resort fee - I'd rather see the room rate reflect this fee. The room's decor and furniture were pleasing, as shown on the website. The beach and pool are lots of fun, especially for our 8yr old. There are fun activities and excursions available onsite, and the staff is helpful in terms of planning activities away from the hotel. The restaurants are pretty good, if a bit overpriced. We enjoyed Shula Burger in particular, despite the cluelessness of the young staff there.

On the downside, I called ahead to find out whether there would be a small refrigerator in the room and was told that there wouldn't be. Not wanting to eat every meal out for 6 days, we bought food to eat some meals in the room or as a picnic assuming there would not be a fridge (which limits food choices). I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was indeed a small fridge in the room (and in the second room, more on that later). It would have been nice to have the correct information to begin with (better yet, make this clear on the website) so that I could have enjoyed a wider variety of my own food.

Similarly, we were told of the NYE party on site that would be 21 and older. They also wanted another $40 to attend, on top of the much higher room rate for that night. We declined and decided to watch the festivities from our balcony. But then when NYE rolled around, we saw mostly children (and attending parents) at this party until sometime close to 11pm. And while more adults started arriving after that, the kids never left. We also went down to the party with our 8yr old, and enjoyed the band for a while. Nobody asked us for a ticket or told us kids weren't allowed. So it turned out to be great, but again the information ahead of time was incorrect.

Finally, it must be said that the bathrooms are terrible. The fixtures are cheap (except speakman shower head) and difficult to operate. The tub, tiling, toilets, sink, door, window, etc. are barely being held together. On the last night of our stay lots of water began coming into our bathroom through the ceiling and vent. It was like something from National Lampoons. Maintenance arrived promptly but we were told to wait while the woman upstairs finished her shower! After dinner we came back to find the bathroom a complete mess and the ceiling still leaking. I called the front desk to find out they would have to move us to another room. They gave us an upgraded room on the first floor where you can walk out directly on to the beach. (However, the bathroom in this room, while not leaking, was no better than the other.) Too bad the bathroom didnt fall apart earlier in our stay since we left the next morning. They also gave us half off the rate that night and waived the resort fee. So while it was a big inconvenience to have to move the night before departure, the staff and management handled it well. They just need new bathrooms in that place!!!

All in all, pros outweigh the cons and we would stay again. Especially if the bathrooms get remodeled. Also, I don't think anyone would miss it if one or more of the many bars on the property were converted into some other use. We never saw them full, even on NYE.

Greetings Jon M, Thanks for spending your holiday at our Islamorada resort. We're glad that overall you and your family enjoyed our facilities and amenities. While we were sold out the week of Christmas to NYE - it's a predominently family crowd in the Keys that week, and locals spending time with family - and therefore less activity in our bars. I'm glad you got a chance to be a part of the NYE event and we wish you and yours a terrific 2013! Come back and see us again soon! Wish You Were Here, Jason

It looks pretty, and you hope for a great experience. But... meh.

The decor is great. Just like the pictures. But they're just old Holiday Inn rooms under it all, which is very evident in the horrible bathrooms. (at least in the 500 bldg).

Check in was infuriating. At 3:00 (check in at 3:30) my room wasn't ready and they refused to hold our luggage in a safe keeping because they didn't want to take responsibility for valuables. Meanwhile three other people who walked up while I was there got checked in to rooms. One of whom just booked her room that day on Orbitz, and one whom I heard paid a rate $50 cheaper than mine. So I'm not sure what made my room type so difficult to place. We did get in to a room after some noodling and went off property for sunset boating with friends. We came back at 10pm and were hungry. Nothing to eat. Literally. Nothing. Anywhere on property. Not even bar nuts or chips. We were told to go to the Chevron, but they probably closed soon.

The property looks stunning. The beach is beautiful, but the "sand" is just crushed up something or other and feels weird. The water looks clear, but you can only swim in a little roped off square. The Rumrunner bar is really cool. Multi-level, etc. But it was very dead. At sunset when the hotel claimed to be at capacity. So I'm not sure there the party was, but we never saw it. Not at sunset. Not at late night.

I have to say many guests seemed to be enjoying themselves. It seems like a great place for families with cool kids activities. We heard people talking about this being a repeat visit. As we were checking out the place seemed abuzz. It may very well be a hidden gem, I just couldn't find it.

It's like a bad relationship - I didn't enjoy it while I was in it, but I sort of wanted to stay to see if it would get better.

Greetings Shelli247, thanks for spending part of your holiday with us and for the detailed feedback. We're always looking for ways to enhance our guests' experience and to improve where needed. My apologies for the check-in delays - It's possible that your particular room type was not ready, while other room types were. I know that can be frustrating when you just want to start chillin out. There is a swim line in the ocean surrounding our resort. If you're looking to swim more than 50 yards or so offshore, one can bob under the line and continue on - though not recommended as boats and jet skis cruise by. It's a bit of a slower paced, laid back vibe in the Keys during the holiday week between Christmas and New Years, with many families hanging out enjoying the sun and water activities. Again, very much appreciate your feedback. We do hope for a "second date" should your travels return you to the Fabulous Florida Keys. Wish You Were Here, Jason

just stayed here for one night on way to key west and i wish i knew how nice and fun the hotel was because i would have spent the whole trip here! the rooms are new and clean, the pool area is great and the beach is nice as well. the bars are great. we rented a jetski boat for a guided tour one afternoon and what a blast we had, they also rent wave runners right on site. on our trip back we also stayed one night and we had requested our same room because we had a good view and the room was nice. room 233, only downfall is there is no elevator in this building. when we attempted to check in on our return trip there was some confusion about the room. the manager on duty immediatley assisted me and provided us with an upgrade for our troubles. what a great room we had with a living room and private balcony. we had a great time here and can not wait to get back down for a longer stay.

We had a good time the long New Year's weekend. There was a great band on Sat night and the party on New Year's Eve was a lot of fun. We also liked the beach during the day even though it was a little chilly. Our rooms were very nice and we had a great view (we had ocean front double queen rooms). The staff was very nice especially the security team who went out of their way to help me with some kayaks. I like the raw bar restaurant as well.

We had one problem with the toilet overflowing but someone came pretty quickly to fix it.

This hotel used to be the Holiday Isle but recently underwent a renovation that turned out pretty nice. The rooms have a cozy Keys-style decor, but you can tell there were some shortcuts made to save some cash. That being said, it's a HUGE improvement from what it was, with clean and comfortable rooms and a great location. Rates aren't bad, either.

We stayed here for three nights as we were attending a wedding on site. The staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. They seem to cater to a partying crowd as there is no shortage of bars on the property - which is quite extensive. We encountered two problems. Our door stuck and required a good pull or a push to open or close. Since the doors are metal, not much they can do, but they do need to do something. The second problem was a noisy room air conditioner. After the first night, I called the desk and maintenance promptly came over and fixed the problem.

It was a beautiful setting for the wedding we attended.
