“Keys on a budget”
Reviewed January 4, 2014

It is not difficult to pay big dollars on accommodations in the Florida Keys. This motel is one of the least expensive options you can find. I was expecting more, but when I got down there and seen other more expensive accommodations I realized that it was a bargain down there. We payed $106 dollars a night (tax in) because we travelled during the Christmas season. The lady/owner was very nice and helpful. She gave us lots of information on places to eat or things to see and do while in the Keys. The room was very clean but the condition of the room was poor. The full sized stove and fridge were probably 30 years old and rusty. The hollow core bathroom door was damaged, and the bottom flapped around when you opened and closed the door. There was no room telephone or hotel telephone. The microwave was very rusty on the outside. The beds we ok. The particle board washroom vanity was falling apart. No kids activities or pool at this motel either. The room's TVs looked like a small computer monitor too. If you look at it as just a place to sleep it is fine.

If your expectations are low you will not be disappointed. We would stay here again even though I pointed out some of the negatives. I felt safe, and it was a quiet place.

Room Tip: Don't expect much.

Stayed here for 6 nights. Blue Fin side. Wasn't expecting a full service setup and therefore didn't set myself up for disappointment. The room interiors were pretty clean enough, though being on the road some extra work needs to be done on ensuring dust doesn't settle on the seats outside. Proximity to some nice spots in Islamorada was also a plus. Spot being at a mid point to keywest where the action is also counts for something. Will stay again if my wandering take me to the keys in future.

My wife and I happened across this motel on our journey down to Key West. The lady who owns the place was very friendly and gave us a huge room with two double beds, a cooker and a massive fridge. Although a little dated, the place was clean and functional and very good value ($60 for the night). The motel is adjacent to the Lorelei Bar which has a lovely waterside setting and great food and music so we were well catered for. The best thing about the stay was that a land crab (who I named Cornelius) walked across the car park and came into our room when we left the door open. He had a nosey around, ate some cheese and then scurried away. Brilliant!

Room Tip: Leave your door open for a while and sit quietly. Cornelius might come to say hello to you too!

Another stay at the Key Lantern. This time was placed at the Blue Fin and it seems to be a little more threadbare than the Key Lantern, but still great for the price. Maid service is very good and you're within stumbling distance to the Lorelei. If you're just looking for a clean, convenient place to relax in the keys, you can't beat it.

Very basic, but clean and comfortable. Old-fashioned feel. Very close to the Lorelei cabana bar and restaurant. My advice: spend the day in Key West and stay here afterward, getting a late dinner and drinks at the Lorelei. We stayed in August, so the price was a very low $45, but I'm sure it's also a great deal in season (relatively speaking).
Dark and quiet at night; great for sleeping. We stayed in room 6 of the Key Lantern.
Very nice staff; gladly showed us the room first.

Room Tip: Bigger rooms at the Blue Fin, just ask.

True bargain in the Keys and a fantastic location. We stayed at the Blue Fin Inn side of the hotel. Within walking, or short driving, distance of all our favorite places. Cleaning staff needs to be trained!! Just outside our door there were two hair ties, a dirty cup and cigarettes. Opened the door to see trash on the floor, which was so filthy it made our feet black, both ceiling fans had enough dust on them to make a sweater, the kitchen sink was dirty and our linens had stains on them. I know from experience that it does not take much effort to make a clean room or to train others to do it properly. We will stay here again but I will make sure to bring some 409 with us.

Four days here were nice! Read prior reviews saying that motel looked "very 1970s", which was very true, but dated decor was forgotten given price and room amenities. Kitchenette room was spacious, clean, and comfy. Kitchen area very nice: full fridge/freezer, microwave, range and stove, etc. The price was ridiculously lower than other places in the area, initially making us wonder if our reservations here were a good idea. But, was well worth every cent, and would definitely stay here again. Short walk to restaurant, kayak launch dock, sunset viewing.

Room Tip: Did not see standard room, but would definitely recommend a kitchenette room.
